Just picked up a coolant temp. sensor for my 96 Maxima.
Hope to install this weekend...if it's not too cold.
How much time should I set aside for this?
Right now, I don't even know exactly where the sensor is located.
Any tips....or is it pretty straight forward?

I have the same code, as well as code 0504 (Automatic Transmission Control Unit Signal to ECU) on my 95 Max. I would also appreciate any tips or links to old threads (since the search function doesn't work). On a side note, the car shifts fine and maintains a normal operating temperature so I'm not sure if these are real problems or not. Should I be experiencing any specific symptoms?

 

When my sensor needed changing my Thermostat was bad also so car took a long time to warn up, dont know of any specifc causes of just a bad temp sensor but best to replace it before it causes a problem.

its very easy and a quick change, 10 mins at the most, the sensor is to the right of the valve cover, its hard to describe in word a pic would do best, I'll see if i can find one.

 

In this picture, you can see two sensors there, it is the one on the right. It is sort of hidden but you can see the newer sensor which is the coolant temp sensor. Just follow the hose from the top of the radiator down and it will be the sensor closer to the firewall


Like MDeezy said, it is only a ten minute job.
