Noob Mods

I've just purchased a '97 Desert Edition. It's an automatic SE w/125k miles. I've been reading up on performance modifications and have a coupla questions for you folks...

1) The Y-Pipe mod seems to be the mod w/the best bang for the buck. Can anyone give me any feedback on the Stone Mountian Racing Headers/Y-Pipe combo on E-Bay right now. It's less than $300 for both and looks like a good deal.

2) 97 ECU mods look like a problem. I read the faqs and it looks like they can't be fabricated (Jim Wolfe offerings are conspicuously absent for the 4th gen Maximas). However, JET seems more than willing to "upgrade" my ECU. They've even posted Dyno "results" for a 98 Maxima on their site. Would the JET mod be a waste of money or is it legit?

3) Cold air intakes seem pretty attractive too. Is there a real difference between stock performance and that of any of the "inside the engine bay" intakes?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

1. Stay away from Stone mountain, their products are crap, and the headers dont do anything, if you buy JUST their y-pipe it wont fit correctly, because it is made to fit onto THEIR headers, if you want to save money, either get the warpspeed aluminized one for 160 shipped, or the Budget stainless steel one for 210 shipped(or something like that)

2.Technosquare has just finished redoing a 97 ecu with a raised rev limiter, http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=380368 Deezo has been working with them to get it done, and from what i just read, its finally finished!

3.Well there have been some contreversy with the Cold air intake, and if it is any better than the stock intake, i for right now have just a hacked airbox, but im thinking of going with a cold air, but for the love of god, do not get the injen style CAI, either go with the Place Racing, or Bomz CAI, the injen CAI sucks in Warm Air, defeating the purpose of calling it a CAI

Welcome to the Org, and enjoy your stay!

Nah, no sticker. It's just a cheesy cactus and sun graphic on the pinstriping to the left of the trunk lock. It's got the "gold package" thing going... grill, back MAXIMA emblem, & door locks. It may be a dealer thing, it's an Arizona car. No pics. I'll see about getting some.

You'll like Tucson. It's like Phoenix was 20 years ago. Big enough to have everything you want but small enough to still have a neighborhood vibe.

what are u talking about??? there is no huge difference, some ebay ones even lost hp! Stock airbox is what you want, if you want power. If you want the sound also, just cut a few holes in the BOTTOM of the air box. DO NOT cut the top, unless you want dirty unfiltered air in your engine
