E-Bay CAI Question

I have an uninstalled Ebay CAI that is an in-fender type install. To avoid the hydrolock issues of fender install and ease install, can I lop off 4-5 inches of this thing and do a short CAI cone setup in the engine bay? What is the downsides of this?

Thanks!

why not?
...gonna get more hot air into the intake which totally destroys the point of having a CAI

Just curious, I have seen some pics with them but did not know if it was a CAI mod or a diff setup. Maybe it is a sound thing?

buy a 00-01 CAI,and combine the two, the 00-01 goes down towards radiator and plastic skidplates instead of in the fender but I don't know if you'll still have the hydrolock issue? I've had CAI on my 96 for close to two years w/no problems yet, and winters in SLC are sometimes pretty wet!

i have it setup up as the CAI. i too was scared of hydrolock but your filter has to be completely submerged. plus rain hittin the filter won't affect it really.

One more question, how much louder is the VQ under low/med/hi acceleration?

The fender CAI produces much louder sound cause the boxed area(inside fender) amplifies the intake noise, compared to a CAI on a 5th gen which goes down in the engine bay. The sound produced is strongest under full throttle and under normal driving is like stock, kind of like you can turn on when you want it & off when you don't!
