Gas smell through AC vents
Hey guys I need some help. The smell of gas has been comming through my vents whenever the heater is on. I only smell it on the very cold days.
Tonight the smell was very bad, after I got home I checked under the hood and the smell of gas was strong. I have checked my fuel filter for any leaks and I have none.
My EGR valve needs to be changed, but Jeff from MaximumTunning said I don't need to change right away. Other then that my cars is in mint condition till this odor of gas.
Do you guys have any suggestions as to what it could be?
Any help would be great.

I recently had this problem and found 2 small sections of fuel hose needed to be replaced. get 5/16" fuel injection hose and 4 small hose clamps. they're the 2 pieces of hose on the passenger side of the car right behind the timing cover. check them at first start up in the morning, they should be wet then and easy to see. it was the fumes from there being sucked into my car. I replaced the hoses and the smell went away. hope this helps.

This happens a lot on the 3rd gen Maximas due to the age. I guess the 4th Gen are getting to that point also. The fuel injection hoses get old and in the very cold temps they shrink and leak gas. Once the car warms up the hoses expands from the heat and the leak goes away.
Quick solution is to tighten the clamps on the hoses on the fuel rails. But the prob may come back because the hoses are still the same old hoses. A better solution would be to replace the hoses.
Check the 3rd gen forums and look at the stickies. There is on about smelling gas. some good info and pics detailing the prob.

update
Thanks for the post guys. I found the source of the smell. It was a small hose that lead to the fuel injectors. I tighten the clamps and all is good. When I get a chance I'm going through the whole engine and re-tighten every clamp and screw. I might also replace the hose, though it looked fine, just to be safe.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.
