How many of you guys have AUTO tranny coolers? Need some first had experience...
Anyone in the south (warm climate) have any problems with a tranny cooler in the cold? which one do you guys have? I definatly want to go with a hayden. i just dont know which model. i have a 403. Im not going to do VB mod. IM only worried about the fluid being too cool. I noticed it has the smoothest shifts once the fluid has warmed up...
i dont know about having a internal bypass.. but ive got a B&M Supercooler on mine.. i totally seperated the flow of tranny fluid from the stock tranny cooler which is in the radiator.. whenever you do this.. your tranny fluid will stay a whole lot cooler (after warmed up).. the only downfall to this is if its cold outside its a good idea to let your car warm up.. because your tranny fluid only operates/protects correctly within a certain range of temps. i usually will let it warm up until the needle is right at the C... the reason i chose the B&M auto tranny cooler is
1) it looks sturdier than a fin oil cooler (the fins seem to bend easily once debri off the road hits it)
2) it claims that it is 33% more efficient than the fin oil cooler.
3) it has a low pressure drop design.. meaning that it doesnt reduce the pressure of the tranny fluid so that you have a risk of lube system failure.. seeing as the pressurization of your tranny fluid in turn makes your car move...
Im not saying that all the other ones are bad though.. this is just what i have and what led me to choosing it.. good luck with it though!

I have a Hayden.... I don't remember the model # ..... it's been on the car for 3yrs or so..... no problems.... I ran it in line with the stock cooler...it is in the return side of the system.... so it drops the temp from the stock cooler.... if I lived in a colder area I might run it on the supply side so the radiator temp would help warm the fluid .... during extended cold operation
i have a b&m totally bypassing the stock cooler with maximum tuning stage 2 vb mod. had the vbmod for about 25k miles and the cooler for about 50k. car has 150k on it. starting to feel some weird shifting at times but it all seemed to start when my car started throwing an egr code which i havent fixed yet
I'm going to do this shortly after i come back. I want to install a fan on the cooler, and mod my interior to have a cool looking swtich and make it look like it was always there.
Has anyone ever put a fan on there tranny cooler?

The reason i want a cooler is because when i changed my tranny fluid after only 9k miles (from mobile1 synthetic to mobile1 synthetic) i noticed a major difference in shifting and tranny performance. and that was ONLY a DRAIN AND REFILL (ABOUT 3.5qts) furthermore the fluid was significantly darker. I do drive my tranny hard sometimes. (i would say 50/50 hard/normal) and i just want it to perform as it does now for more than 9k miles. Im probably going to stick with the hayden 403.
i have the hayden ultra cool and the shifts are hard in the winter, i mean i dont mind once the tranny oil isnt hot. this is my 2nd tranny and im doing everyting to prevent it from overheating again.
btw i did the drop resistor mod
