I took my rear mudflaps off today because I think the car looks better without them.... I notice that a few of you have taken off your front and rear ones(without body kit) Should I expect alot of rockchips in my paint or is it not that bad?
Thanks...
Josh

mud flaps

I agree the car looks better without them. I haven't noticed much chipping of the paint, although having the wider tires does tend to pick up more stuff off the road, especially the front tires. I also have 235/45's and it really ticks me off cause I can hear the debris hitting the side of the car. I recently bought a nose mask and am considering putting the mud flaps on for the winter months.

I have a 96se that came with no mudflaps. Maybe they were an option, my car came from Georgia so maybe it depends on here you live. I have thin plastic trim instead just to protect the trim. No rock chips at all. Check with nissan for this part.

I do not have them but I would like a set. I have not experienced any chips but do experience tar and road paint.
Tar and paint sucks to get off and cannot be good for paint.
Maybe if you primed them and painted to match they would look better. Be sure to get a nose mask, because the chips
will happen on the hood without one. Whats nice is the bra comes in two pieces so you can just put on the hood piece if you want

My car hasn't ever had mudflaps, and after 120k the lower sills look like they've been sandblasted. It definitely has gotten worse with the wider tires, too. At this point, it really doesn't matter anymore. Maybe someday she'll get a complete repaint.

My 95 GLE has factory mudflaps since new. It has 71,000 miles and had hardly any chips along the lower sills. The car has been driven mostly on the highway at higher speeds. They may not look good but they definetely protect the paint!

my 96 has never had mudflaps, and there are tiny marks in a pattern similar to driving with mud on your tires, i concluded that these marks were an undeniable result of a lack of guards. i hate them

Good story, but did you notice the date of the original thread? I think Joa must have been drinking last night and bumping up old threads.

The only time I wish I had them are some trackdays (when we run at the fairgrounds or something) when there are little rocks and sand everywhere.

In which case, I make some temps with blue painters tape.
