very specific car vibration

I did a search on shakes and vibrations and whatnot before I decided to post this... I don't post "my car is broken help me omg!" threads... ever... but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on this one.

my steering wheel shakes pretty violently, but ONLY between 20 and 30 mph, and only while accelerating. literally, it starts EXACTLY at 20mph, and stops shaking EXACTLY at 30mph. if I take my foot off the gas, it stops shaking.

my car is an auto, but I've tested in both 1st and 2nd gear and it shakes either way at the same speeds, so I think I've ruled out any transmission problem.

I JUST replaced my wheels, so there's no bent rims. they're brand new. alignment/balancing was done a week ago, and the car still shakes the same way it used to.

brakes were checked, no uneven pad wear or rotor warping...

after ruling these things out, at first I thought my motor mounts could be bad... but why would the car ONLY shake from 20-30mph and only under acceleration? if the mounts were bad, wouldn't it shake as soon as I put it in gear?

anyone?

does this vibration occur if you accelerate quickly, like if you were flooring it, or only if you are slowly accelerating?

slight accleration or sudden acceleration, doesn't matter. as long as my foot is on the gas between 20-30mph, it shakes.

Bent rim maybe?
no. read my post again.

anyway, thanks for suggestions. if anyone has any more, feel free to keep posting, but I'll probably just get it checked out sometime next week.

Old post I know but I had to bring it back. I have the same problem. Ive had the axles replaced, 2 alignments at 2 different shops, wheels and tires balanced, yet the problem still persists. Any ideas?

Had that done on saturday. Everythings tight up front. The vibration wasnt there before I had the axles changed. The original axles were clicking so I had them replaced. The passenger side started clicking a week later so it got replaced under warranty. Immediately I noticed the vibration. I got an alignment and had them check the front end. Everything was cool there. Monday I went back to the shop that installed the axels and they said they didnt want to mess with my car anymore. So they gave me my old axle back and gave me a refund for the cost of the parts. I had the axle rebuilt and it didnt need balancing. Ive owned 5 4th gens and this is the first time this problem has come up.

blast from the past, I got an e-mail that someone replied to this. haven't been on this forum much in the last couple of years.

I sold my car two years ago, but my problem with this was fixed when I replaced my axles, if I recall correctly. obviously I can't tell if your exact vibration is the same as mine was so it could be something completely different. have the cv joints looked at. boots, etc.

good luck

I had the exact same thing happening and found out that the wheel bearings are bad. That is most probably your problem as well. replaced them myself and voila, no more vibration! It is an easy fix if you want to do it yourself, or your local guy can do it in a few hours. Not an expensive fix.

Hmm, nope. Tires have been rotated a couple times. It doesnt matter what wheel is where. Most of the vibration seems to be coming from the passenger front corner. And I have a 5spd with vlsd if that helps at all. It seems like a small issue but when its every time I leave from a stop then it gets old very fast.

front end vibration

Hi, I have a 1998 Maxima, after replacing Lower Control Arms, tie rods, Brake rotors, Tires, Balance, Alignment, etc, I found the culprits to my Front End Vibration at approx 70 mph; my Inner and Outer CV Joint BOOTS would deform and bang all over the place. Check the video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svIFs7trqxM Good luck. Alex

Holy crap! I totally thought something like this could happen. I did recently have my axles replaced. Alignment shops and tire shops have both looked at my front end and couldnt find anything loose. Im definitely going to check into this now.

its the bearing. if you jack your front end up . can you move the wheel back and forth? if you can its either your balljoints or your bearing. if you shake it and the balljoint doesnt move then its your bearing. mine did the same thing when accelerating. and if you replace your bearing replace them on both sides.

I just had an inspection done at a reputable shop. There was nothing wrong with my wheel bearings or anything like thta...there is a new strut on the front driver side and I get vibrations at 60km/h and 80km/h. Maybe when i get my new winter tires on it'll g away..i'll let ya know
