My engine bay: Ive been scrubbing photos !
There should be a catergory on the org for Maxima owners who's cars are broken down ! ROFL ! My max is still down but im working hard to get her clean, so when the big day comes I will be ready to cruise in style ! LOL !
Before and After Snapshots
Before: - Dirty engine bay, right off boat. I opened the hood and birds, bees, and bats came flying out.
After - been working like a dog, im still only 35 % done but its starting to come along.

if we thought the manual was rare in the states , its just about non existent here, something like 2-3% are manual, and of course my front grill is different and lights i think. but its weird here, there more variations of maxima.
some 4th gens have 220 hp ?
some have the mevi stock ?
just makes you wonder ..

Damn Ceasar.......the engine bay is soooo clean, you can eat out of it! How do you clean it like its new out of a dealer? There's so much dirt in my engine, it'll take a chisel to get um out.
Is there a write up somewhere about engine bay detailing?

water hose method -
i use tin foil and rubber bands and seal up everything electrical. use walmart bag over intake filter and rubber band that ( since i have no intake at the moment just sealed up the tb).You can put a floor mat upside down over your intake manifold area (and go back and do that by hand), and dont spray water directly on the alternator, i usally make a shield out of tin foil.
you just wet the engine down, then spray simple green (100%) or castrol super clean (50/50 mix with water) onto the engine, get to scrubbing like a dog, then spray off.
then take some armor all and spray all over the place, and then rub down ( armor all is mainly for plastic and rubber hoses to get them looking like new).
always take note of the day, if its hot and sunny dont let any cleaner sit for a long time or it can dry quickly and stain.
check for water and dry it up in any areas that might be left. you really shouldnt have anything to worry about, you can do all the IM area after removing the mat.
you will need lint free towels, a good scrub brush (a few different size ones makes it better), and much will power ! Some people say not to do this, but i have done it for a long time and have never had any trouble.

ny96max, i started today, sorta ! ended up doing more damage than making things look good ! lol .. i dont have any real polish tools , i just took a wire brush and started scrubbing, these pieces were pretty nasty so i didnt have anything to lose, lol ! well i did lose some skin on my hands, lol !
(image above), i took the first piece off and got the gunk off, then when i screwed it back on, it got to tight and i popped the screw in half ! what a bummer ! so that kinda ruined the vibe !! LOL !
then i started on this piece (image below), but yea this is actually fun, and i looked over some threads today and want to buy all the gear and really start kicking some serious tail at polishing !! rofl !!

speaking of polishing......i've got a dremel i'd like to use to polish some stuff but i want to do the method of working up from 300 grit sand paper to 1200 grit.....however, i don't think the dremel acessories offer specific grits in their sanding bits........any idea where i can find some bits that range from 300-1200?

Damn...even the radiator supports look new! Looks like I'll have to do this one weekend before summer time when it is too hot do anything outdoors.
BTW Ceasar, what do you do with areas further down below around the engine, areas unreachable with a scrub? And how about those areas between the engine and firewall where gunk usually accumulate and are very hard to get to?

yea thats the same method the mechanic at the engineering firm i work at uses... (simple green and a hose)
he doenst cover anything tho when he does the cars (ford escorts for the inspectors) he told me that if the car doenst start you know you have a problem with you ignition system lol
i dont wanna do this since i cant afford to fix any electrical problem so i wanna make sure i cover everything... i understand i need to cover my intake especially since i have a cone filter on there.... and the altenator... what else?
every wire harness in the engine bay or can they get a little wet
thanks,
danny

when i cleaned mine all i did was pour a ton of the purple cleaner i bought at wallmart let it sit for a few minutes. then used my power washer and sprayed down the whole engine way. I repeated this about 3 times untill i was out of the cleaning soultion. i didn't cover a thing up. looking back i would dilute the solution to 50/50. A power washer is 100 times better then a garden hose. i tried the hose at 1st and it sucked. then armor all everything you can. and wahla a clean engine bay....
looking back i would cover up my air filter & alt...

also for fun i open up a few of my connections after cleaning. guess what!??! dry as a bone.
if your worried don't use a power washer.
looking back i'll never was an enginebay my hand again. 15 minutes with cleaning solution and a power washer and damn clean as a whistle. another 15 with Armor all and you have a clean engine in 30 minutes not 3 hours.
can you give me an example of when using a power washer has been a problem for you?
to each there own. i'm only stating MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. which is what i hope everyone else here is doing also...*cough*cough*

oh for what it's worth my buddy used to detail cars on the side for some extra loot. i just called him up and asked what he did about engine bays in his customers cars. he said he usual wouldn't clen em unless asked but if they did all he would do is power wash them down after throwing on a cleaning solution. he used egneric blue stuff....i mentioned electrical connectors and he said: what do you think happens when your going down the highway at 85mph when it's raining.
whatever clean your bay however you like. if a 5hp water sprayer is to much for you. don't use it. it's not for the faint of heart to use a machine like that

thanks wills98maxse, everyone should just take every precaution if you decide to do a wash, messing something up can be costly and a pain !
tinfoil, rubberbands, moms garden hose, walmart bags and a little extra time is a very small hastle to make sure all will be fine. i have also done the water hose method many times, with no trouble but I know the possibilty is there. so take care of those vq's !
