thread for auto shifter screw is stripped...any ideas?

just as said in title, the thread where you put the auto shifter is somehow stripped. the screw popped out the other day and both bottum two are pretty stripped so i can't get a new one to hold them in. now my shifter is loose in the meantime. (which reminds me i want to trade someone with an i30 for their auto shifter for my Razo gun-grip shift knob)

anyone have any idea how to get a screw to hold in there? am i SOL or is there something i can do? i semi recall my stepfather using some tool to make a new thread in something, but don't really remember what it was...i guess i'll have to give him a call too. thanks guys

just convert to 5 speed.

jk, ya i think there's a tool that will make thread or maybe replace that shifter rod?

Jepht20 02-24-2005 03:56 PM

ha i've thought about it many times, but figure why bother. i'll wait til i graduate college and buy a new(er) car. plus if i had a 5 speed right now, i'd be screwed because i just sprained my ankle pretty badly friday and wouldn't be able to drive.

i'll have to go look for that tool because having a loose shifter is annoying.

just get a different shifter.. one that doesnt require those screws.
thread found here.

Yeah, try to find a Die? that will re-thread the shifter bar thingy.

tap and die kit with a larger screw could fix it.

i really like this:

i'm gonna just try to fix mine. although maybe i'll do that brushed aluminum mod part cuz i've always wanted it changed. i like this i just hate moving the OD button.

you guys are right and that is what i couldn't remember the name of so i'll have pick one up...thanks!

use JB weld. You can JB weld the screw right in there. Or you can let it dry and drill a new hole.

Use a chaser or tap and die and rethread.
