95-97 Reverse Indiglows Vs Leds

i been debatin about this for a long time.
The reverse glows for the 95-97 on ebay doesn't seem to have the holes for the screws on my gauges. So wht am i sopose to do? leave them on which prob won't be a flushed result or drill new holes on the gauges which is kinda scary to me.

OR get the LED bulbs i also been wanting in blue.

contains six bright LEDs

DEFINITELY go with the LEDs

I've done both (or at least attempted to do both), and I screwed up the needles on my first gauge cluster operation, screwing up the calibration on the needles just a tiny bit. But since I'm a perfectionist, I couldn't handle that.

So I went and bought a white SE gauge cluster and LEDs from superbrightleds.com (blue 4 LEDs-per-bulb, you can check out my cardomain for pics), and I absolutely love how it looks. Looking back, I think I would've become sick of the indiglow gauges, but every night when I flip on my lights, I can appreciate the LEDs.

Oh and I just screwed the screws into and through the reverse indiglow gauges, but they kind of bubbled up, I wouldn't recommend it.

No problem, just glad I could save someone the headache I went through. To be fair, though, the success rate (or fail rate, depends on how you look at it) for installing indiglow gauges without screwing something up is about 50%. LEDs are soooo much easier and look better IMO.

Yeah the black gauges are the ones I originally had and replaced with the white SE gauge cluster. I have nothing to base this on but logic, but I think the LEDs would be the same brightness if not a bit brighter on the black gauges because the numbers are tinted white (or clear?) instead of black like the SE gauge cluster numbers.

Don't let these guys talk you down. Nismo... do both... it looks SICK. You don't know those screws you can leave them off. Just put your gauges down with douple sided tape. As long as you have some degree of manual dexterity putting those exact gauges on is easy. Just make sure they when you're slipping the indiglow gauge over the needle that you put pressure on the indiglow gauge.... it's flexable... not the needle.

i dunno but i'm gonna get other leds from superbrightleds.com so i guess i'll just go ahead w/ the LED bulbs. i'm sure i can pull it off but i'm feelin 100% about the indiglows plus it will safe me a lot of hassel and risks.

The single inverted bulbs are a little dimmer but they don't leave hot spots.

i got my LED bulbs from www.superbrightleds.com they are the 194 type bulb with 6mini Blue LEDs on each(note these bulbs will just barely fit into the gauge cluster, so forget about the 9mini led bulbs they offer)They are plenty bright and have very minimal hot spots.

^^^^WOW, now that looks sick!!

in the first pic you can just turn on power to the LEds? if thats the case who would need to light up the rest, you can get a general sense of you speed rpms, gas and temp. I'd run with that. I looks like something a super car would have like the Koienssegg or something along those lines.

sick

do indoglo's jusy because 1 person messed up on a rather simple as hell install does not mean they are hard to install? how many people do you hear of messing up when they are doing that? not many at all.i hav both righ now and had both along. right now i have blue led's under my indiglos so it lights up the needles alittle and lights up the milage.

leda are real dim and you have lighting spots. either way do what the hell you wnat it is your car.

I got the rings from the group deal which was about 2 years ago.
I'm not sure you can find the same one around but there's newer gauge rings that looks much better than mine.

Yea I can control the power of both of them. so the first pic is intelliglo power on only.

So where do you get the intelliglow needles from, or is that the stock needles with a brighter red LED behind them?? And how are you able to control them like that?? That looks like how my Lexus lights up. Needles first then the rest of the lights. Pretty creative. Man I wish I was mechanically and technically inclined.

freaken a, alright i'm gonna go w/ the indigos now cause first, i don't have a credit card to buy from superbrightleds.com and mom won't do it, second, i could ask my friend but don't want him to get into this so i'll go w/ the gauges. i know that movin the gas gauges is not good but for the others, is it okay if u move it up or down a little bit? is the only way to mess up the calibration is if u unscrew or pull it off? thats the only thing i'm afraid of.

oh well for future notice for me, where is the headlight POS wire located and what color is it?

Actually to install intelliglow needles, you have to unscrew the needles, so I don't think unscrewing the needles will mess up the calibration. maybe if you don't unscrew it right way, it will screw up.

and you can get the needle kit from
importintelligence.com
it's bit pricey but I don't regret getting them.

Yes, superbrightleds.com has them. They are #74 bulbs. But I warn you they cause weak spots. I have both types inverted and regular and neither are bright enough IMO. It's probably because there are only four bulbs used for the backlighting of the guages, on the other hand, the odometer, which has it's own bulb, looks great. Also unless you use fingernail polish remover on the needles the red on the needles will cancel out the blue LEDs and make the needles invisible at night.

Autolumination.com has them also, but their prices are ridiculous.

hey guys I have a 1997 SE cluster and wanted to do the LED bulbs, I was wondering what would you recommend the 194 in 4 led bulb or in 6led bulb? Also will I need resister for these or it's just a plug and play thing? Will it have hot spot? If so what will happen in the long run?

yes its plug and play. i have seen gauges w/ 4led bulbs. But i heard the 6led will barely fit but it will work. Plus the 6LEDS, which i might get, have a really high mcd rating of i think over 7000. i noticed minimal hotspots for the 4leds and hardly any i think for the 6LEDs.

Thanks for the help. one last question is that the 6bulb led, will it fit in easily or do I have to do some modification for it to fit? I want to go with the 6led bulbs instead of the 4 because I want the gauge to be brighter.

I got a 1996 Maxima. I know I need the 194 wedge bulb (either 4bulb or 6bulb). How many wedge bulbs are needed to complete a gauge cluster? Thanks...

i'm sure i already stated this but i'll freaken do it again. i heard the 6LED bulbs will fit, but barely, so no modifications.

the 4led bulbs are rated at 1300mcd and has a viewing angle of 29 degrees. not bad not bad.

the 6led bulbs, are the brightest bulb of this type Non Polarized with a whopping mcd rating of 8400 and viewing angle of 35 degrees. there $2.99 each and an extra .50 for blues. i am getting these if i change my mind about the reverse glows which i can't still make up my mind.

Heres a litte Pro's and Con's comparion

LED Bulbs
Pro's: plug and play, avoid risk of messing up needles, ect, save time, no wiring modification needed, needle's will be lit(although u can use bulbs w/ the gauges)
Cons: will not have white gauges, will not have the cool reverse indiglow look although i'm starting to get tired of just looking at everybodies, won't be able to change color pattern.
