i've had the custommaxima.com short shifter for a while now and this problem was with me for while, the shifter would hit the shifter surround in 1, 3, and 5 gear, while racing one time, i actually cracked the surround in half while shifting into third. i heard about resolving this problem by putting the stock flag pole shifter back on or getting the 00-01 5 speed tranny (which will move the shifter back about an inch), but im not gonna put the flag pole back on or spend hundreds on a new tranny. is there any other solution to this problem? someone help, not something im too worried about, but would help in the long run.

 

is this the adjustable unit? try adjusting it.

 

yes, it is the adjustable one, i have it set at 3/4 way down, so it would make the shifter slightly longer, but still hits. another thing is that the shifter when in neutral, sits forward and i noticed this on a lot of maximas w/ short shifters but mines even more forward than the others.
