EVAP & Knock sensor

Hey. A little history. My max has been running pretty rich for about 2months, since I got her. When I say rich, I mean 14mpg(with over 50% highway driving). I had pulled codes in jan, but the codes were erased, and the guy who pulled them erased them without writing it down, and forgot them. I just pulled two codes today: 0304(knock sensor), and 0111( Evap purge flow monitor). The second one seems like one that was pulled back in jan.

Can the EVAP system cause the knock sensor to become faulty, and vice versa?
What is the part# for the knock sensor?
Is it possible that the failure of both systems can cause my mpg to drop this low, or is it just the failure of one system?

Thanks people.

More than likely the knock sensor is the culprit. Read the info on it in the stickies. Basically if your knock sensor isn't working your ECU retards time into a "safe" mode. This mode less effecient from both a performance and economy standpoint.

I have had the 0111 code for the evap system. I still got 27 miles a gallon on the highway. Many seems to say that this code should not affect performance. I don't see how the two problems would be related.

Anyway, my two cents. Good luck.

Thanks Chief. PS: I forgot to mention that I had read the stickies before posting. I already knew the PCM was running in safe mode before I even pulled the codes. But I was wondering what sensor was the culprit, and my mind was leaning on O2. I now just got the part # for the knock sensor. It'll be changed asap.

As far as code 0111. What do you think? I'm going to take a look at it. The stickies werent too helpful on this. I can easily check the hoses, but I doubt that'll be it. Is it even worth my time to try and figure out whats failing on it? I assume that since you're getting 27mpg (29 being optimal), it affects mpg very little. Any chance that the coals inside the canister have been used to their max, and can do nothing further (just wondering)?

All the question regarding teh 0111 code are good ones, and I don't have the answers. You're right, the info on that code doesn't help becuase usually a more specific code will apear. I could be one of many things on the EVAP system.

You didn't mention anything about an O2 sensor code, so I would just address the knock sensor at this point. Other 60K maintenance stuff may help with MPG as well. Fuel filter, air filter, plugs, TB cleaning etc.

Can someone provide a second opinion on whether an EVAP malfunction can trigger the KS code? I have 3 evap codes and the KS code. I replaced the KS(although the harness was not changed) and the code did not go away.
