'96 Max acting a fool - Please help if u can

Hi everyone, I am not sure what is going on with my '96 DOHC V6 automatic. I recently replaced the plugs because I came out one morning and she just would not fire. It would turn over fine, but not start. Since then everything was fine until a few days ago. She started loping and almost dieing going down the road. Then it cleared up and I went to my destination. A few hours later when I headed home she did the same thing, then would not stay started. Waited a little while and she drove home just fine. Now it seems that in the morning when I first go out she runs real rough, then clears up. But if I drive more than a few miles or drive a short while stop less than an hour and go again that it starts not staying started and dieing. Weird thing is if I let her sit for a few hours I can start her just fine and drive on home. Not sure where to start. Bad plugs? Leaking valves/gaskets? Bad injectors? Bad fuel filter? I have read my Haynes manual a million times and not sure just how deep to start. I am hoping that someone here can at least give me a good idea what to do next. I have a check light on and the code was for an exhaust sensor if that helps.

Thanks for a great forum! -FraK

Addressing the engine codes is a good place to start. Read the ECU codes defined and replace your O2 sensors if you have to. Clean the throttle body, replace the fuel filter and all that type of 60K service if you haven't done so.

Sounds like a bad MAF, and/or engine coolant temp sensor. oth easy fixes, and you can also read about them in the stickys on top of the 4th gen forum area. Check codes again, and wait until all the codes have been thrown.

Yeah check the codes. And your car is a car. It's not a girl. I dont know about the rest of the guys (and gals) but I think people who refer to their car as "she" and "her" are demented.

Sorry didnt read your message fully. Which exhaust sensor is the code for? That's what you should replace immediately

So PTownMax, what was the outcome on your car? I need to try and get mine over to an shop to get the codes read. How difficult is it to clean the throttle body and or replace O2 sensors?

Thanks everyone for a great forum.
