Manual Transmission Reliability?

I've seen more than 1 reference saying that the manual transmissions on 4th generation cars to be unreliable. Were there any factory revisions or documented fixes?

Thanks,
Mike

i think it all depends on how you drive.

Hey man, I bought your AGX's off you. I drive very aggressive, occassion trips to the road course.....auto is getting on my nerves

I don't want to count on the "luck of the draw" for rebuilds. I'm interested in a real fix.

I remember hearing something about swapping an 00/01 transmission in there. Anyone care to confirm?

Thanks again.

yes you can swap in a 5th gen manual tranny. everthing is the same in bolting up, if you axles are any good you can use them. you will also need to reuse the sensors that you have on the old tranny, speed and reverse. many 5 gens that have abs use that sensor to double as their speed sensor just to let you know.
when you shift the gears you will notice that the 4th gen and 5th gen gears are alittle different. the 5th gen tranny when put in 1st it is a little further up than it is in the 4th gen and reverse is a little bit further up. it may take alittle time to get used to.
i got a pretty good deal from daveb on a 2000 tranny, you might get lucky and find that he can get one for you.
or you can find one on http://www.car-part.com/

No, you have a 3.0 just like 00/01's do too.

This question gets asked all the time, and it tends to be the driver more than anything else, though a rebuilt tranny will make it more friendly I suppose. My tranny has 105K on it, and its still running strong. If I ever do get a new tranny, it will probably be a VLSD one

People need to learn how to drive manual correctly. Rev, match all your downshifts, don't downshift into first. If you do this I don't see why your tranny should go very quickly. Plus use good gear oil, you don't change it very often

True that.
I have 115,000 and still going great on stock clutch.
It is very smooth.
I had to replace the hoses for the cylinders, but what can you expect after that many miles. They are just hoses. It was pretty easy, and all is great now.
