transmission shop sucks!!!

Ok people, I just had my 5-spd trans rebuilt 2 weeks ago, and it's been a nightmare. I got it back and none of my gauges were working, and it died after a day and would not start back up. plus, it was leaking out of the left axle seal. I brought it back, and they fixed the charging problem and supposedly fixed the left axle seal leak. I got it home and noticed it was still leaking. I brought it back again..........same process all over again, giving me the run-around and supposedly fixed it again. I got under the car again today after I picked up the car, and guess what I found?!?!?! THE LEFT AXLE SEAL IS STILL LEAKING!!!! I don't know what else to do with these idiots. I spent all that money on the rebuild and I'm having this problem over and over again with them!

Consumer Affairs. Small Claims court. Better Business Bureau.

Get 2 estimates on what it would cost to fix the problem. From other shops. Consumer Affairs will tell them that they either need to fix it or refund your money.

Small Claims Court will give you actual damages if you win.

BBB will tell them that they will be rated poorly unless they satisfy you.

Keep a log and get reciepts every time you bring the car back. Tell them you want it written as to what they did during that visit.

If they refuse to do this then call the police. The police officer will be your witness that you were there.

Good luck. I've been down this road many times until I realized most mechanics are idiots and its better to do things yourself even if you risk total destruction.

so, I should get estimates on the leak being fixed, even though they already rebuilt the trans??? btw.. i appreciate the quick response, it's just that I'm in such a bind without my car, and this was my biggest fear leaving my car with mechanics. THat's why I usually prefer to do it myself, but I didn't have the tools for the trans rebuild

Small claims court requires you to have 2 separate estimates. They have to be on company letterhead and have a number to call and verify.

Yes get the estimate on the leak being fixed. You need to show damages. i.e. it will cost me (X) amount to restore my car to driveable condition. You cannot drive with a leaking seal. And if they do repair the car make sure they put in a NEW seal and not just RTV around the old one. Cheap bastards like to do that.

Most automotive shops are licensed by someone. Whether its through the DMV or through Consumer Affairs, they need to be licensed.. Find out which applies in your state and contact them too. You have rights here and you need to act fast because the statute of limitations will expire and then they can say the damage happened after the fact and they are not responsible for wear and tear on your automobile.

Hmm...if they can't seat an axle seal properly, I'd hate to see what they did inside the tranny!!
