Knock Sensor Risks

I was wondering if I were to put a resistor into my knock sensor plug if it would do any damage to the car. It seems to be a good idea for a quick fix for now, until I can get my hands on a new sensor. What size resistor would I need. I was told a 500 something but I forget. thanks

Your car will probably end up in that hopeless junk yard. Stop being cheap and buy it. Your going to be wasting ALOT of gas if you dont change it.

Or even on ebay for cheaper, though not always reliable.

Dont even waste time or money on a resistor. Your car will run with the old ks, just put the new one in when u get it. Don't go crazy trying to rig something, thats how u end up bringing your car to a quick death.

Here's the link for the resistor-

If you do plan on doing it.. just make sure you fill up with 91 octane or higher.

I bought mine off of ebay, quick shipping, paid $95.

Run your car with old KS until you get your new one, putting in a resistor can really **** off your ECU. Also, if you do end up in a situation where you car would start knocking, you have no protection at all, not even a condom. So don't go sticking something foriegn in your maxima, it will thank you later.

Most likely you won't have problems running a resistor, I did it for several months in my 3rd gen without any problems at all, it definitely won't "**** off your ECU" any more than the dead KS that's in there now. Like someone else said, run the good gas to avoid detonation and you'll be fine.

I Agree. Leave The Old One In Untill You Get A New One No Matter How Long That Is. I Drove Mine W/ The 'ghost Code' For Over A Year. Its Weird It Never Affected My Gas Mileage But Its Alraedy Resistored Out If The Car Knows Its Bad. Ecu Sets A Default For It So Its Really Not Hurting Much Anyway.

There is a thread in the GD forum for these. JRNissan is selling them for $89. I bought one from him and it is a genuine Nissan part in a generic box, works great. Nissan parts at EBay prices can't beat that.

Would a bad knock sensor affect how the car reacts when the accelerator is pressed? My car seems to stutter and bog once in a while. I recently replaced my MAF which fixed 80% of the problem, and the knock code was all that the car threw after that.

Bad coils dont always set off a code however there is a cylinder misfire code which is a bad coil. Ask 99 owners when their coils go bad, it doesnt always set off a code. I've ridden in a 99 with bad coils and you can feel the car misfire, its a pain.

You have to get an Ohm meter and check the resistance on them.

Yeah I have a 95 Maxima and the tech replaced my plugs ever since then my car has been studdering very badly and even almost stalling when I come to a stop. My acceleration is non existant and my RPM's go crazy when step in th gas. I know I need a new KS because my car has 150,000 on it but the tech says it might be the trans. That cant be because before I brung it on I never had any of these problems. The only thing I did feel was minor studdering but after he changed the spark plugs its like 20 times worse. It sounds like the coil pack??? but dont those cost like 80 each one??? please help??????

p.s. I ran a test on my car and 5 codes came up 0303 0503 0901 0304 0701
