Whats the difference between a strut and a macPherson strut insert?

I need new struts in the the back. I have the nissan security plus. On the dealer work order it says that I need new "rear shocks and shock stoppers". Is this synonimus with "struts and strut bushings"? BBecause the dealer said that I wasnt convered under my nissan security plus warranty, and I just got home and checked the list and it says that I am covered for "rear strut assembly part #55302" and other misc part numbers called "bushings". Now I'm like is it covered or not? I wasted a whole day having my car at the dealer. . On the very bottom of my warranty sheet it says that MacPherson strut inserts are not covered. What is the difference between a strut and a strut insert? And does the max SE have these strut "inserts" Whats the difference between a strut assembly and a strut insert? Why is strut covered but not macpherson strut insert PLEASE let me know- I dont want to have to pay for this.

Your car has front struts and rear shocks.

A strut insert is a replacement cartridge that goes into your existing strut housing after the guts have been taken out. The only company that makes a strut insert for our cars is Koni. All the other replacement front struts offered to us are direct replacement units.

so is it possible for the front struts to be covered and the rear "shocks" not to be covered? It says nothing about shocks on my warranty but it says alot about struts. Is there a play on words? I mean, they replaced the struts up front a year ago, so why would the rears now not be covered? I dont get it. Isnt a rear strut assemby the same thing as a "shock'? Arent these the same animal just under a different terminolgy?
