Replacing a Broken Power Window Regulator
Replacing a Broken Power Window Regulator
Something I've noticed on my 95 Max is a disturbing tendency for the window regulators to fail. I've replaced two (both rear windows), and hope I don't have to replace the others.
It costs about $100 for the parts, and if you go to the dealer, $150 more for the installation.
DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER FOR THIS INSTALLATION.
The reason I say this is that it is supremely easy to replace this yourself. Okay, well maybe not supremely, but certainly not difficult. I'm not much of a car mechanic (I can change my oil, but that's about it), but I checked out this site:
http://www.a1electric.com/maximareg.htm
I started at about 11:30am and was finished at 1:15 or so. All it takes is some patience, a little elbow grease (careful, the screws holding the window motor to the cable assembly are VERY tight), and some time.
My window works like a charm now, and I saved $150. Took my GF to the beach for the weekend instead.
If the link doesn't work in the future (for those who may read this post), you can always pick up a Chilton manual (which you should have anyway) for $25, or do some more searching on the web. Plenty of sites with full-color pictures.
If you need any tips otherwise, just ask.
