Even though my '99 is fully loaded, I have a cheap, solid rubber shifter. My '96 GLE has a nice leather stitched shifter. I'm guessing the leather shifters went the way of the fuzzy pillars ('95 and '96 GLEs only) and corner lights ('95 and '96s only).

Anyway, is it fairly straight forward to swap the shifters? The differences I notice are the '96 has an in/out OD button. The '99 has a touch OD button. Is this going to affect my transfer/swap?

i dont think it will work. try wiring up the 99 and see if the O/D works correctly. If not then you may be able to swap the switches.
