Funeral for a 99 SE sterling mist.

With some explaining, some are self-explanatory.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4507.jpg

4508 - see how little damage is done to the finish.
They say it was a "bounce" not a "roll", meaning the
car landed hard when it wasn't airborne.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4508.jpg

4510 - the back wheel is all skeewampus, because the
entire back suspension broke and the axle is held on
by springs only. Notice the carseat somehow got
smacked over.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4510.jpg

4511 - from the back. Trunk lid was about 15 feet from
the vehicle. Contents were everywhere, tow truck guy
was nice enough to pick them up. Our air compressor
did not survive.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4511.jpg

4517 - There you have a brand new 40,000 mile tire
with less than 1 thousand miles on it. And a nice, new
disc brake with very few miles, snapped completely in
half.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4517.jpg

4520 - back drivers wheel. Nice new tires!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4520.jpg

4521 - the opening Mac crawled out of.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4521.jpg

4531 - Those are tire marks. Yes, on the outside of
the wheel well. The back suspension was totally gone
and the wheel was out and up on the side of the car.
When they tipped the car back down, the wheel went
back into place since the springs are still attached.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...x/DSCF4531.jpg

Ready for the irony? 45 days ago we had two cars. Sold the Infiniti on Feb. 15. Now, we have 0 cars.

Both front airbags deployed. The driver's side airbag
deployed. Mac was seatbelted. The car rolled from 6-12
times according to witnesses. The tow driver was
impressed at how well the structure of the car held
up, considering the "bouncing" roll.

Mac has a welt on his forehead, we think he got hit
with a metal CD case kept in the car. He has a
concussion but is otherwise going to be fine, albeit a
little sore.

How did you roll it? That looks bad. What are you going to replace it with?

My husband was driving back from work, about 80mph on the freeway. He was sleepy but did not stop because he needed to be here to watch the baby while I went to work. He closed his eyes "just for a second" and woke up in the median. He overcorrected, rolled several times, the car bounced off the rock cliff next to the freeway and landed on the roof. He woke up upside down, unbelted his seatbelt, fell on his head. Crawled out the back window.
The car had new tires as of last month. New brakes as of last month. New battery as of last month. Full tank of gas from this morning.
We have BAD timing.

Replacements? No way we could get financing now. For a few weeks (months?) we will be taking the bus/calling a cab.

Buy 1 rose for ever 1000 mile on the car and put the in the drivers seat. I will send a check as soon as my wife lets me.
Seriously, I am just glad to hear that there wasn't a child in that car seat when it happened.

I am so sorry about yer sitation but i too am glad everyone is ok...
If it helps yer financial situation, maybe you could part it out... that is if the insurance lets you and it is still 'Your car'... i'm sure you could get a pretty penny for the black leather and probably many other parts. If i wasnt so damn far away i would come help you guys with the labor... I'm sure there are some UT orgers who wouldnt mind lending you a hand...
anyway, just a thot for you. Just keep your head up.

Hey, nice wheels. As you can see they hold up Ok in accidents too.

As for parting out - well we live in condos right now, no garage so there is no way we could. But I will talk to the ins people and see how much they want for the car and I'll offer it up here if anyone else wants to do the parting. Sadly, it is RAINING right now, beautiful mint black leather interior is prob. getting ruined. :sigh:

To pjp900 - As for the Blazer.. did you all see this?
http://money.cnn.com/2005/03/15/Autos/fatality_results/
They did a death rate study recently. Blazer has the highest death rate of ANYTHING. Mostly due to rollover. MY other ex-car, Infiniti G20, did the best of ANY of the small 4-door cars.
Maxima did really well too. 3rd of all the midsize cars.
http://www.hwysafety.org/srpdfs/sr4003.pdf (full pdf here)
Of course the study did not account for driving styles - obviously a sports car is driven differenly than a minivan - but it is still interesting.

damn damn damn. i fell asleep behind the wheel of my 95 BLAZER(scary to read all the things about blazers being a death trap now), and woke up when the car hit the cement wall between the highway and the city street. i dont know how, but there was minimal damage to front and rear fenders, no doors were scraped. when i say minimal, probably like 2 inches of body missing, but no deaths. imagine if it would have been a ditch, or the truck had gone at a different angle...

enough about me. although i've never flipped my car, ill feel safe in my if i do. smart that your husband wears his seatbelt. i tend to forget sometimes to put mine on. otherwise a concussion might have been the least of his worries. hope it all works out for you, and if you can, get another Max. what did the insurance company say? Do you have it covered?

I am the seatbelt enforcer in this family. He is pretty glad right now that I've been such a b**** about it. The Max is very insured, unfortunately it we owed almost exactly what it's worth so we pretty much are not going to come out ahead. Don't know what we will get next, pretty sure it will be a Nissan, they have been good to us. For a little while though we are going to try being *gasp* carless, lucky for us the condo is 1/4 mile from a bus stop, 1/2 mile from 2 grocery stores, 1/2 mile from my bank, etc. So, going to walk a lot while the weather is good and save up some $$$.

Wow...as everybody else, I'm glad your husband is okay! It's really impressive how the safety cage held out and I'm definitely glad I'm driving a Maxima! Speaking of Blazers, I had to try and convince my Mom for months to sell her '95 because I knew how dangerous they are! Precisely why safety features and high crash test results are so important to me.

So everybody knows..
It was auto, had every option except traction control. EVERY option.
However at this time we cannot say if we're parting out or not. Claim is moving slowly right now. I will let everyone know if we do. You guys remind me of g20.net. A bunch of vultures honing in on the kill. Can't blame you though, I did it too.

Thank you for all the well wishes, and may you never need the excellent safety cage the Max has.
