Car on the lift today weirdest noise ever

Last weekend i took the starter out and regreased it:

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/516

Put it back in and since then I feel the weirdest noise. When engine idle its ok no noise. But when i was down the car and I stick my hand up form the tranmission side and move the engine and shake things it sounds.

Its like a steel little stick inside a can (when you were a kind and wanted to make lots of noise). Kinda like that sounds.

Mechanic says its the flywheel but i definitely dont want to adventure in flywheel-clutch change unless am sure its that.

He also told me if i replace flywheel and clutch i also have to get a new starter due to the old starter and old flywheel matched but new fly and starter wont. <-- how true is on this statement?

one more time i turn to the family to listen to experiences and opinions regarding this issue...

Thanks for the input...

unless you have chipped teeth on the flywheel or the starter, you can reuse both.

will the chipped teeth cause that sound? cuz the funny thing is it started after i regreased the starter and i didnt see any chipped teeth on the starter. I don't know the flywheel.

no because there's nothing touching the teeth of your flywheel after you start the car

Update: While driving at slow speeds and turning/swinging/going around a round/ LEFT it does it ALWAYS. Never while (all the above) RIGHT. With the clutch press or depress, it still does it. Nothing while straight either. and nothing up on the lift while idling unless you stick your hand up from the transmission and shake things up. Then it does it. What's this? Help Please !!

"Speeds and turning/swinging/going around a round/ LEFT it does it ALWAYS". Could it be coming from your axles? I really don't know what to tell you on this. I highly doubt your missing teeth on your flywheel. I figure if it was your starter, then you'd only hear the noise upon starting your car. Thats the only time the starter is in use. Something might have fell in there while you were removing or putting back the starter.

Felt in .....? where ? inside the engine? I am not a professional mechanic but i dont think IMO its coming from the axles. Since i wouldnt make it while on the lift and you shake things up. Its the clutch bearing (see post #8) a possible cause? This problem is driving me insane since i dont know the source of it.

You had mentioned it makes the noise while driving doing turns and such.. that why had mentioned that. I'm sure it not, but everyone else seems lost on your issue. Have you thought about you might have broken a tooth on your flywheel and its just getting kicked around while its in motion?
