This thread is dumb and so are you. Why not just look at the 20,000 other threads on fuel economy instead of starting this waste of time?

Use 87 octane. Anything higher is a waste of money. If you don't get 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway there is something seriously wrong with your car and you should sell it immediately and only drive your motorcycle.

Motorcycles use too much gas. I heard bicycles are very fuel efficient. I heard people getting like 120 miles per gallon (of water)! Do you know how cheap water is?!

You've got a point there. I wish I had thought about that. How much does it cost to run a bicycle? Do some take more water to pedal than others? My bad, not too with it when it comes to bicycles. Are unicycles better - they only have one wheel.

Well you know how 6-speeds are better than 5-speeds in cars? Bicycles have 21 speeds! They are slowest, slower, slow, somewhat slow, not really slow, kinda slow, slow, less than slow, okay decent speed, just plain old decent speed, quick, fast, faster, fastest, even faster, even fastest, HOLY CRAP THAT'S REALLY FAST, warp 7, hyperdrive, lightspeed, and honda civic speed.

That took way too much thinking.

It isnt a waste of money to use anything higher. 91 is what is reccomended... why you ask? Becuase our cars need the higher octane to function properly. We have higher compression than some other cars on the road. Sure you can use 87 octane fuel, but your maxima will run into what we call a "safe mode" to prevent detonation, which basically retards the timing. So you're missing out on the 20 or so horsepower you could achieve with 92 or 93 octane. Don't beleive me? search the forums. Theres a dyno backing up this information.

By the way, its what, $3 more a fillup to use premium? It's worth the extra bucks.

Yes, being honest I average in the low twenties. I gotta go easy on her for one tank to see what she can be capable of.

FYI, bottled water is costlier than gas ... and you can't go on freeways and you can't go at 65 mph on bicycles

maybe it's a 5spd and he coasts downhill, both ways to work and back.

Also, using a lower octane has been linked to wearing out your ks faster.

For those of you not smart enough to figure it out, I was being facetious (the word is in a dictionary). I routinely get over 500 miles (29 mpg) on a tank on the highway, with the highest being almost 550 (over 31 mpg). In the city its another matter, 350 miles or 19 and a bit on a good day in stop and go etc. My car is a 95SE, 5-speed, with 57,700 mostly highway miles on it. The only performance enhancements are a K&N panel air filter and a Budget y-pipe, both installed last June.

Don't go with what people say about their gas mileage. Some people make mistake on how much they get on a full thank. I also get lower then 20 to a gallon for city drive. I don't believe what others say. Some people say they get 450 for a full tank. Come On!!!! Unless you drive like a old person that is not possible.

For example go to this link and see what I am talking about.
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ht=Gas+Mileage
Come On!!! Get Real 400 Mile my A**.......

Some bicycles now come with 30 spds, not 21. And the guys in the tour de france approach speeds of around 70mph in the mountains

I would say 20 or 21 mpg is regular for city driving, that's 350 miles to a 16.8 gallon tank. I drive too fast on the highway so my highway mileage is not much higher than that, probably around 25-26 mpg.

I can hit 70 mph on my bicycle...............right after I fall off of the mountain!

No, he gets out of town which would take you about a month to achieve living in New York. When people repeatedly say how far they can drive on a tank what part of that don't you understand? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to set a trip odometer. Calcualting mpg it appears is another matter open to conjecture.

negative, actually most of my family and coworkers can't believe I haven't been in an accident yet as fast as I drive everywhere. Are you in an automatic? 5spd's almost always get better mileage in the city.

Cystum,

I am just telling you the way it is for me in my car here in Dallas, TX, not in NYC. I have never been to NYC, but from the looks of it on tv and in magazines you have nothing but traffic and stop lights, so yeah I would guess you would be lucky to get 15-18 mpg. But here in Big D, I drive 20 miles to work everyday (Mckinney to Plano) and stop at maybe 10 lights.

My best-ever mpg was 32.7 on a road trip through IL. I routinely get 30-31 on the hwy. I do drive like an old person, though.

Since when does low octane gas wear out a KS? I didn't even know a KS is a wear and tear item. As far as me being insecure and sexually abused, sure, why the hell not. I mean cause I tell it like it is there must be something wrong with me, either that or your ego is so small that the smallest bit of truth makes you shed a tear. It's the internet, get a spine you pansy.

Anger management is needed when you show anger regularly. Cause I sound like an *** on a forum doesn't mean I need anger management. I'm a nice guy sut some people are just so dumb and ignorant that unless you tell them they are they'll go on living looking like they're brain dead, just like the dude who started this thread. You really have to be to start a thread just like the one that was a few threads down the line. I point out that you don't bother to skim a page or two or just that you don't give a **** and all the newbs jump on me. I'm used to it and I feel sorry for all of you.

KS works like a Resistor. When you use low grade gas the KS works most of the time. KS sits on top of manifold where there is a lot of heat in that area.
