Sometimes even with the parking brake set, the car will still lean forward or backwards enough to rest on the "parking pawl", which is a component of the automatic transmission which prevents the car from moving when in Park. So I think that is what happened. What you might want to try next time is to set the parking brake in neutral, let off the foot brake to let the car "lean" on the parking brake, then shift to park.

The shifting out of park difficulty is not a big problem for me. It happens every once in a while, but a good strong tug will get the shifter unstuck.

Consider yourself lucky

Max auto trannies do this. They kinda stick in park. Usually takes about 20k to 30K before you may notice it. It's a tranny trait in the max's and I30's. Sometimes it sticks more than other times seems to less whens I've been driving and the cars warmed up a bit. Car and Driver complained about this nit picky detail. If it's really bad then it may be something more severe.

Try changing the tranny fluid...

This happened to my dad's max around 40k. Jiffy lube recommended that the tranny fluid be changed, and I hadn't even told them that it was sticking in park. After I had it changed, the problem went away and never happened again.
