manual transmission

I need a manual transmission because my gears and bearings are bad inside the tranny. I looked at junkyards and couldn't find any used transmission. The dealer found a remanufactured one somewhere but it's gonna cost me $3000 to fix. Any suggestions as to where I can find a used or remanufactured 5-speed manual transmission? (1995 SE) thanks~

yeah boss, same $h1t just happened to me! 85Kmi on my '97 SE & my manny tranny blew! I am in the process of installing a new '01 5spd tranny, ACT stage 1 clutch, Fidanza flywheel, Courtesy STS, & Redline shift/ebrake boots. I found my tranny on findpart.com. also try usedpartslive.com & partconnection.com I would recommend looking into installing a newer (5th gen '00 or '01) tranny with fewer miles on it. this is probably going to be the most cost effective method, with rebuilt trannies going for $1500-1700 & brand new OEM ones going for about $2300 (this is just for parts, don't forget labor if you don't install it yourself!) I'm going to have all my parts in by next weekend, so I'll keep you updated! good luck!!

when my tranny went out, i had it rebuilt for $800. look arround for some local transmission guys, dont go through the dealer. and dont cheap out and get a used tranny either. with a used tranny, you have no idea as to what it went through with the first owner. my friend bought a used tranny when his went out, 20k miles later it died. then the idiot got ANOTHER used tranny after that.

I called aamco, you know the place that deals with transmissions, and they told me that they rebuild transmissions and I would have to bring it in and see if they can even fix it. ~$500 for looking...if they find out they can't fix it, i lose $500 (at least thats what they said). if they can fix it, then that $500 goes into how much ever it costs to fix but for all i know they can charge me **** load for labor and stuff. trying to call around and try to find a transmission. Does it matter what year the transmission is from? local guys told me they will charge ~$250 for labor. sounds about reasonable right? oh and what do you mean by "all your parts" tmkforever? well let me know how yours work out. thanks

also look at www.car-part.com Take this opportunity to look into upgrading to a VLSD from an i30. And, check other local, independent shops besides national chains like ammco.

When you say your "tranny blew", can you just not shift now? I'm trying to get an idea of if this will just happen or if it is going to be gradual.

I have 95K miles on my original 5-speed and clutch. Does spirited driving substantially increase transmission wear and shorten its life? Or is it just a luck of the draw if yours doesn't have the bearing problem? Thanks.

I was looking at transmissions online but I don't know if my transmission is non-locking or locking differential and if it is thru 12/94 or 1/95. Does anyone know which one it is for 95 SE?

If a locking differential is the same as a limited-slip differential (LSD), I would say yours is non-locking. I have a 95SE, but mine was built for the Canadian market and is LSD.

VLSD == Viscous Limited Slip Differential

You want this, if you are replacing the transmission. You'll need a new driver-side axle for it, but other than that it bolts right up.

If you're replacing it with a new one, you'd be a fool not to get VLSD.

I'd rather get a new one than a reco'd model. I jump all over that trans above if it wasn't so much to ship to NZ
