Ypipe finally on, how many peeps ended up going to a shop do to a lot of rust?

well my Ypipe story was a nightmare, basically I got under my car and got 3 bolts off but then the rest were BEYOND rusted...I used plenty of PB blaster...the cat bolts looked like they were welded on there, they really werent but the rust made it look this way...it was INSANELY rusty...and the 02 sensors wouldnt even budge......finally I decided to take it to a shop...I was APPAULED at the price and flipped on the guy...hes a trustworthy and honest mechanic, my family uses him all the time...but I guess that I have to believe the labor he quoted me, but its really hard to believe and REALLY pissed me off...he said he had to torch most of the bolts and I sort of believe that being they were so rusty.......well now thats its on, it really does sound nice with a bit more of a deep tone...WARPSPEED Y pipes are really nice and fit well...great price, great sound, and NO BEES at all...

was wondering how many people had Ypipes that were too rusty and ended up taking it to a shop?..and how much did they pay?...........also, for people that did there own, how the HECK did people get that one nut off thats almost hidden that connects to the intake manifold?? thanks Rick

No shop for my downpipe. However, I did have to have the nuts holding the muffler to the b-pipe undone by a shop which cost me $10. My car spent the first two years of its life in sunny southern CA so the rust issue probably wasn't as bad as your car in New England.

OH maann, do I remember that bolt. You seriously need an arm, hand, and swivel socket that are made of rubber to get it in at the right angle. Took me a while, but eventually got it off. I'm luck I'm in cali, where rust on cars doesn't exist.

i had to take mine to the shop to get it done a couple weeks ago. the bolts and nuts were rusted to hell and back. charged me something like $225 to do it because he couldn't get one of the O2 sensors out so he had to order me a new one. oh well, at least i know that's one less part to replace in the future.

I used a U-joint to get to that back bolt. I think the hardest part for me was the removel of the rear-bak O2 sensor. I finally removed it, but the O2 sensor socket tool is stuck on it and won't come off. But it was fine, I just bought a new O2 sensor (needed one anyways) and used a wrench to tighten it.

OUCH! I paid $200 for a custom 2.5" catback with the y pipe and muffler installed all at once

well, most of that price came from the new o2 sensor which cost me around $120. all in all, i think it was worth it, except for the stupid bees which is annoying me more and more each day. have to break out the exhaust wrap for a try.

The two bolts that connect the y-pipe to the catalytic converter were impossible to work on... so we blasted them apart with heat using the air hose in my autos class. Other than that, we sprayed all the other nuts and bolts with WD40 and they came out fine (maybe with some elbow grease). I ended up replacing all 8 nuts and 2 bolts (the catalytic converter ones).

no, the whole thing on your ecu having to adjust to the modifications is a load of crap. there is no need to reset your ecu if you dont need to

yeah, i didn't get any CEL so i think i'm fine. I had the caer in the shop a few days ago and had the guy replace the two nuts at the cat. those were more rust than nut, i swear! anyway, the others were able to break free after a little help from a long socket bar and my gigantic biceps!! haha, yeah right, i'm skinny! that's how i got my hands in there to get the O2 sensors out. Also that one nut on the rear header is a *****. i just got a swivel socket and some extenders and held a flashlight in my teeth while i cracked it off of its bolt. the it was able to unscrew by hand.

I love the satisfaction of doing things yourself in your own garage, lying under your car.
it's almost more enjoyable than the driving afterwards with that stupid grin on your face! we've all been there!

The only reason to reset the ECU would be because there is a stored code other than 0505. With mods, its pointless because there is a learning curve both ways.

I didnt even bother attempting to try it. The bottom of my muffler was peeling off cuz of the rust, so i knew the ypipe was bad. Plus, at the shop the bolts had to be torched offed and the O2 sensers were stuck on that it had to be cut off.

Ha!

Ask the California guys what "water" is. They will only be able to define it as "shortage"...
