I was wondering if any of you with 4th Gen Max's with Manual trannies had experienced leaks at the output seals? My poor 99 is going back in to the dealer on Monday for the 8th visit and attempt at solving the problem.

A local friend and fellow CANMAX member had this problem on his 95 max, and it turned out to be a failed bearing due to improper pre-load. Although he has had to make the repair twice now (about 50,000 miles apart).

Just wanted to know if anyone else was in the same boat as me??

you got a lemon. The dealer only has 3 attemps to fix the same problem and then its a lemon. Ask for a new car

Lemon eh? I don't think they are going to give me anything but some new parts after 78,000 kilometers.

I don't think this definition of "lemon" is complete or correct. Can you substantiate it?

I had this problem on my '97. After twice replacing the axle seal, Nissan had the dealer open the tranny and found worn bearings allowing the axle to move around and aparently take out the seal. I think they replaced like six bearing and a few seals. My car had about 48K miles on it. Now it's at about 57K with no more leaks. It was all covered under warranty.

Turns out this is a common problem. I have a found a few other people with the same problem, and one friend is on his third set of bearings. He has decided to do the work himself.

Watch your car for leaks very very carefully, it might just happen again!

BTW, My car just came back from the dealer for the ninth visit for the same problem.
