Auto Transmission

I a not real used to auto trannys, so this may be normal.

The car in question is 1997 Maxima, auto of course. It seems like sometimes it just shifts at odd times, and if you are on the throttle lightly, it shifts a little harder. Like while accelerating, it shifts smooth, but if you are like just cruising and it shifts, it kinda shifts hard??

Sorry for my ignorance, I am a 5 speed guy and this is my wifes wip.

Do you notice it all the time? All the maximas i have driven shift the same in my opinion. the hard shift you feel i believe is normal, especially with a cold motor. The shifting also adjusts to the drivers style of driving through the ecu.

mine does the same too. Smooth as silk when you get on it, and a little rough around the edges when cruising. Ive had my max for about a year and it has done it since then. Tried changing fluid, and adding an additive but its about the same.

Weird...mine shifts smooth all the time once the car is warmed up. Flush the fluid, drop the pan and clean the magnet.

Dittos....except for when it's cold, mine is failrly smooth...flushing your fluid anc cleaning the pan is probably your best bet. If you're not slipping, don't worry about it.

Doesn't a firmer shift mean less slipping? If this is the case, then I like the firm shifts.

In the case of autos, firmer is better... at least from a wear point of view...

Mine shifts rough 1-2, especially when cold. I don't think it's anything to worry about.
