Question???

Why does it seem like more org members are into dropping their car
and making is faster than throwin some 20s on it riding on chrome.
It seems like I'm one of the few who'd rather have looks than performace. WHy is that?? Which one are you?

Im going for both looks and performance. But im leaning towards turning my car into a sleeper, so that nobody knows the power except the people that lost the race.

It's all about performance... That's is why we have a forum to have technical debates and such, and well, some peoply would rahter make their cars look good, I'd rather make it look decent, and be fast as hell. But that's jsut my opinion. We all have our own tastes, and many people ask why the hell make a family sedan fast .. well why not ... I don't like chrome or 20's ... I like headers, cams foreign intake manifolds etc ... I don't mind 18's though.

If you're going for looks, why'd you spend the money on springs?!
You could have just heated them to the appropriate height

Great thread title.

A good thread description would have been "Are you into looks, performance, or both?

Man, I'm sick of super vague thread titles. Threads with poor titles should be nuked immediately.

To answer your question....... Power, power, and more power. Heavy 20" chrome rims just made your car slower than it was stock.

End rant.

Yeah 20" rims looks ridiculous and slow the ride down significantly. Who wants rims to big that you have to worry about going over bumps... as long as they look good right?

I go for performance. I think the ride looks pretty good stock and I've got all the options (SE-L).

I spend more time driving the car than looking at her from the outside. I like it when I can feel the Max perform.

I'm into performance. Chrome is too much bling for me, I'm paranoid about drawing too much attention. I wouldn't ride chromes even if they were given to me. I think 19z with a drop looks pretty good though.

I'll eventually have the combo plate.

I'll mod the looks a bit, do a slight drop w/new wheels and mod performance to a certain point, but I'm not going to spend $2k+ on engine peformance mods.

"Class with attitude" is my ultimate goal. At my age I don't want to look like I'm 18 driving a car designed by Hot Wheels either.

i want to mod for performance, just to feel the butt G's and i love driving fast. but looks are what im spending my money on. i know what you mean though, if you don't have mille miglia's and a drop with a stillen kit on a 5-speed SE then you don't fit in on the org. it seems like this is what most have or want
Hopefully im gettin me some 19's cuz i still want a drop and nohing less than chrome will grace my wheels. but a drop is dual purppose cuz it looks good, but i improves handling too

I'm neither. My max is a daily driver, and slamming it, modding it, or putting on wheels is silly. I have a car that is actually fast for that. (3rd gen RX-7). Might as well start with a platform that has potential, I think.

I like the Max and modding it. tru if I had a supra or s14 or an rx-7, that would be good to drift with. but I like the Max.

look are my primary...but certain mods for performance..are necessary for looks...dropping it...nice 17/18 inch rims...new exhast..low profile since im going for looks...possibly intake..and so forth..also LOOKS wise...SYSTEM, INterior, Lights, Sytem, some mroe INterior, and System again...no body kits...waste of money and time...and different mods tyhat are fun to do are also important (AE mod, LED tails, Vinyl decal for 3rd brake light) stuff like that...so i guess im all around with a little bit more looks in my ride.

When I first got the car I was all into looks... but then I realized how much more fun performance mods are. Now all I really focus on are HP and handling, with the occasional cheap asthetic mod

Im into a car looking good, but in my opinion money is more well spend on performance. The only visual 'mod' i have done to my car is tint the windows.

My max is my daily driver too, but why not have your cake and eat it too? No one expects a 4 door family car to smoke them! It's great to have a sleeper as well as an all-out beast.
Supercharged Maxima during the week, Twin Turbo Supra on the weekend.

Okay I see ya'll points but you spend all that money in performance mods, but tell me where can you actually use all that power potential? Okay you just spent a couple grand loading up your car with extra horsepower but you can't really use it to its full potential. Unless you run your ride at the track. And the funny thing is that half of ya'll blabbing about performance this and performance that can't even drive that good. But to each his own. I'd rather be able tuh watch some TV/DVDs and play PS2 in my ride than waste my gas racing a lil rice burner.

How do know "we can't drive that good"? Who the **** are you to say such a blanket statement. You're an idiot. Also, I use my car to it's full potential everyday. It's called the freeway.

I'd rather watch TV/DVD's and play PS2 on my 65" Mitsubishi TV at home, where those events are supposed to take place, and I can actually enjoy them too w/o cops or getting into an accident!

When driving a car... guess what... I like to drive my car,and fast. isn'ts that what its meant for? Not a car full of tv's and video games.

Maybe after you get dogged enough times on the street you'll wish you had power instead of the uneccessary weight in your car slowin' your a$$ down. Also, now you have to worry about someone stealin' your $hit. Sooner or later, it's going to happen.

My best new friends www.paintscratch.com and www.properautocare.com for looks and maxmods.dyndns.org for the rest.

Other than that.... BRING ON THE PERFORMANCE !!! AND HANDELING !!! make sure your ride is well painted and waxed and shining and you don't need 20's nor TV's ....then go out there and let the growl of your modded VQ brake some hearts and see some punks look really bad in front of their girlfriends....lol...<-- this last thing is so common ... no matter what they are riding...when cookie-girl is on the passenger seat... ohh boy... I HAVE NO MERCY !!!

Whenever i ride w/ my girl i am more carefull than EVER. But hey.. that's just me.

Because a fast maxima looks sooooo much better than a fast civic. Anyone can take a pos honda and drop a few g's on performance. You just look better in a Maxima. The maxima demands higher respect than other cars.

Sometime adding looks gets you performance as well. Putting a set of 17" rims on the car and then lowering it to get rid of the huge wheel gap gets you better looks and added handling.

You are right there. Too bad the 17's weigh too much. Better handling but acceleration suffers too much man.

Me, I'm a performance man. The 4th gen's look good stock. All it really needs is a lower center of gravity. I'll be concentrating more on getting into the 13's by the end of this summer. Why? As far as I know, there are no 13 second maxima's in Saint Paul.

not this 17's: http://www.enkei.com/RacingSeriesSpecs/RPF1.html

but with those above is your wallet who suffer too much.

I dont like crome and i did the usual performance mods first CAI, Full Exhaust clutch short throw shifter and lowering ... before i worried about some of my looks..... I think the Maxima is a very good "sleeper" car i mean what "normal" 4 door family car can kick the crap out of a mustang or something in that nature....

But all in all Chrome SUCKS cant stand it!!! bottom line!!!

But everyone has there own opinion and i guess i would give them props. (if its not to extremly stupid)

Im more about looks since the 4th Gen is starting to age as far as performance goes and others are catching up. I did go for some performance mods but most were also for the looks, CAI for instance I like more for the cleaner look in the bay rather than the performance gains (if any since it has been argued so many times.) But with the wheels, 19's are cutting it depending on the style but anything larger just does not look right to me. Also, the huge chrome wheels are

My 2 coins.

Oh so I guess you really get to open up your throttle and push your max to it maximum potential right? You don't even do dat when you max was stock! Dumbass!

I'd rather watch TV/DVD's and play PS2 on my 65" Mitsubishi TV at home, where those events are supposed to take place, and I can actually enjoy them too w/o cops or getting into an accident!

Oh but flying down the freeway won't get you pulled over or cause an accident? Dumbass

I don't race idiot. Thats for bone heads like you who think you actually accomplish something by beating another car. Okay so you race and you won. Your dumbass is still the same fool after the race as you were before it, but with more wear and tear and less gas.

I did post my comment. In fact, I've posted several jacka$$.
And your point is?? Oh thats right you have none!

Its called the track, not the freeway. You dont want to worry about 5 0 or getting into an accident with tvs in your car but you love to street race, that should worry you more. And sorry, not everyone here is into street racing, anyone tries to steet race me wont "dog" me because im not stupid enough to get involved in that. Save it for the track so at least you can get some legitimate proof of your ownage as well. One more thing, most cars are not ment for speed, thats why there are aftermarket performance upgrades. Most are ment for the transportation of passengers over long distances.

If you are on a tight budget like me...looks seems to be a lot less demanding and addicting than power. Seems like we can't get enough speed once we get going with a little bit of this and a little bit of that then i could be doin this. Maintaining beauty even on this old 95 is fun and affordable ( somewhat ). but if i had it my way. Looks and Speed. Makes a great sleeper.
