is this 96 gle worth 6100$?
i went and looked at a 96 white GLE last night. automatic, power everything, 90,600 miles. the exterior has some minor wear, the interior looks fine. it needs rear struts and he said that he hasnt had to do any major maintenence on it. that means ill prolly have to do belts and hoses, the water pump, and whatever else for the 60k tune up. hes asking 6100$ is this a good price? i dont have alot of time to find a car or to be picky, so if this is decent...
whatre the advantages and disadvantages of a GLE?
what should i do/have done if i do buy it?

Why do you need a 96GLE if you already have a 96GXE? The vehicle will already have had the 60K servicing. You will need to do the 90K servicing, which is the same as at 30K. I would be inclined on focusing on replacing the fluids: radiator, power steering, transmission (drain & fill or flush, whatever is needed).
What condition are the brakes in? I suspect the pads have been replaced all the way around.
What makes you think that the water pump requires replacing?

i payed 6500 for mine, its a 96 se 5 speed, it had 82,000 miles on it, its basically a gle with a 5 speed, it was definitely worth it. i looked around at quite a few other maximas and most of what i could find had the cloth interior, manual climate control, etc. usually for about 1,000-2,000 less, but im definitely glad i spent the extra money.

I have a white 96 Maxima SE 5 spd, tan leather, dual power seats, climate control, bose sound system, runs/drives perfect, just turned 76K like new in and out, never seen snow, whole life in Fl and GA, never been smoked or eaten in. I would let it go for 7K. personally i like the SE's better.

too high, you should not pay that much unless it's from a dealer, low miles and perfect condition/maintence done. I would pay $4500-$5000 for a 96 with all options, depending if it's a rare color/5spd, miles and condition.

Go to rent-a-wreck and rent some POS, unless your insurance company is picking up the rental, which I doubt.
Try and find a low mileage SE with a 5-speed loaded. I know they're rare but start looking. Maybe you don't like 5-speeds. If so, then maybe buy this one but at a lower price. Do you like the color? If not, give it a pass.

Pretty much. For my old 96 se with pretty much every option except abs and heated stuff I paid like $8k back in 2002. Last year it was worth maybe 6k. I don't care if it has 30k miles, I don't think I would pay that much for a 95.

next best thing was a saturn or a chevy cavalier for almost the same price....
unless i got something like a 97 with really high miles...

Well in your situation I guess you had no choice. It took me 5 months to find and buy my first maxima. The current one it took almost 2 months, and would've been a lot longer if my dad hadn't spotted it on his commute from work.

I don't understand why someone would say it's only $6100 and I'll probably need to do a water pump. How about he does the water pump before you buy it and you pay him $900? Maybe $1100 if you feel generous. This forum is proof that people here have money and they are looking to spend it and they just don't care, they want what they want and now at any price. Just the other day someone got $7700.

ya know.. im sick of hearing people say that these cars arent worth anything.. and please take into consideration who's giving advice on what the cars worth.. first off, you have somebody telling you what he paid for his car at auction.. god only knows what he got.. he should consider himself lucky if the ONLY thing that was changed on his car was the odometer. secondly, for whatever reason, these people think that you can compare the prices of a gle, with an se, or even a gxe.. having an automatic is considered and UPGRADE , not to mention, leather interior, moon roof, heated seats, digital climate control, abs, and so on... so please DO NOT listen to these people that think $6,100 for a 96 with relatively low milage is an outrage cause they paid 5,000 for there 95 5sp se.
just so you know, a 96 gle, with every option, in excellent conditon holds a private party resale value of $6,700 with similar milage. Now, if the paint is faded, theres minor dents and scratches, and the car need struts, then theres an angle for you to negotiate the price a little.
its amazing what people THINK these cars are worth, especially when you have some kid that paid 5000 for his, meanwhile he didnt have leather and the seats were ripped.. when i first though abotu selling mine, i was going to ask $6,700, and people were telling me it was too much, even though it had about $4,000 in extra's compared to the car your looking at now..

oh.. and let me enlighten you to another bit of information.. when you buy a car from a dealership, your looking at a car that been, "dressed up" to look "as good as it possibly can".. the 10lbs of silicon they use to shine things up is just one more thing they use to cover up flaws.. secondly , a dealership is more prone to resell a car with problems. why you ask? because when you bring it back a week after you bought it, and the check engine light finally came back on after they re-set it, they get to bill the warranty company for all the work there gonna do to it.. DUH...
one other thing you get from buying from a private party.. you get to see who was actually driving the car.. and get the real vision of how the car has been kept.

I paid $5,300 for my 95 SE with 87K with ALL options in good condition from a private party. I would not pay any more for a GLE.
