I did this on a 2000 i30 (almost exactly the same as our max’s) this worked 100%
Odds are if the car is shaking bad you have more then 1 bad coil. The engine is able to compensate for 1 bad coil fairly well (drop in performance obviously) but with 2+ bad ones it cant and you will get the shaking.
1) Get an ohm tester…
2) Pull out ALL you coil packs VERY easy, hardest part is figuring out how to unclip the clips lol
3) Test every combination of pins here is a VERY ROUGH picture:
a. With the ohm tester put one on the top and one of the bottom and test accordingly
Pins 1&4, 1&5,1&6,2&4,2&5,2&6,3&4,3&5,3&6. (you get the idea)
Now normally you don’t have to test all of those but I cant remember which ones are the key ones to test and its not like it much work, plus it will give you a better idea of the bad ones.
4) from there graph all your results for each coil and trust me it will be clear as day which ones are the “outliers”.
5) From there order which ones you need accordingly, I don’t remember the site but I found them for as cheap as $57 each.
And that’s that… I did that for my old mans i30 in January saved him almost $600 that the dealer was quoting to replace all of them.

what year is your car. you would get better fuel economy if you just replaced it. it is very easy to do. for 1,3,5 1 clip 2 screws. for 2,4,6 4 allen screws 1 clip and 2 scews. R&R

The coils in my 99 all measured out correctly yet misfired horrably.
Don't waste your time measuring or cleaning coils from a 99, just replace them.
