Is this exhaust considered deep or a little ricy?

I know there have been a 1000 threads on exhaust but I haven't really payed alot of attention to them b/c I haven't really worried about getting an exhaust.
Now I want something new.
Plus,I haven't even heard a Maxima with an exhaust in person. I can go on only what I read on here and the video's on here. So my question,is the exhaust inthis Video (ScarfaceTHX's post)considered deep or throaty? It sounds pretty good to me.
I was just wondering what others, that have exhaust or have experience with Maxima exhaust, have to say about it in comparison to other set-ups. I am looking for the deep, throaty sound. I only ask because I don't know about exhaust an Maxima's. Thanks!

Thats definatly not deep. Its a little throaty, but its definatly not deep...sounds kinda like a civic. Cant you tell if it sounds deep or not by yourself??? Get it if you like it man, its your car after all. It doesnt really matter what people on this board think!

I can tell what it sound like,I just don't know what it sounds like in comparision to OTHER exhaust b/c I haven't really heard other Maxima exhaust.

For as far as i know that may be as deep sounding as the Maxima exhaust gets, but it probably isn't. And it's not that I care what other people think, there are just more people on here that have more knowledge about this than me.That is why I am asking.

greddy sp2 is nice and deep or you could go custom exhaust and have a shop make your pipes and put on a magnaflow muffler

If you have $500 the get the GReddy SP2. I love mine. That exhaust video sounds like a super-honda or something.

How do you know what series or part number of muffler to choose from magnaflow or flowmaster or something like that, cuz there are probably at least a half a dozen that would possibly fit, right?

I'm going to get a custom exhaust pretty soon since i JUST found out that my B pipe has a hole in it. I thought only my muffler was rusty, but i guess not. Probably going to go with a generic muffler that they have at the shop. Should be pretty good.

One problem is i cant decide wheather to go with 2.5" or 2.25"

go 2.5 stock is 2.25. i'm not sure what the difference is in price, but since it the last exhaust that you will have, or will probably last the life of the car, might as well make it count. spend more now, or a lot more later.

I would assume that most mufflers of the same brand and style would sound the same. I just found a nice oval street series magnaflow and bought it - part #14827

price isnt an issue since i have connections, but i just dont want it to be loud and ricey. I simply want a little louder and deeper than the stock tone. I might have the guy make me quiet duals, if its possible to have quiet duals.

if you want to you can hear mine sometime - you probably live 5 miles away from me, yet I've never seen you around...

I have a 2.5" custom catback w/ a 24" resonator

Wait for the 97-99 version of the Apexi WS catback. They are testing it now. It's coming out soon.

That's most likely going to be around the price of the SP2, if not more. That's too much to pay for an exhaust in my opinion. I'm not really going for power gains because i know i dont get anything over 5whp with a catback. I guess i'll go talk to my hookup at the shop when i get my exhaust done, and ask him what the best thing to do is going to be, and then i'll DEFINATLY post clips when everything is done.

Some are saying they don't like it and to get a Magnaflow but that is what the guy has on the first post.

Magnaflows are definitely ricey sounding in my opinion. Some guys think they're deep, but that'll only be your opinion until you hear a much better muffler on the Max. I had my Borla put on 2 days ago and am really happy with the sound. I'm hoping to have soundclips up by tomorrow if I can get my server working again (unless someone wants to host them for me)

What does everyone think about the Dynomax? I've noticed very few people use them, but I've heard Civics that actually don't sound as annoying with a Dynomax.

Get a Y pipe, and a 2.5 custom cat-back pipe with a dynomax super turbo muffler. It will be nice and deep and not cost you a lot of money.

It's not very loud either. just has a deep tone. If you dont like it you can always put in a small resonator.

I prefer my car to be silent. But I have had an exhaust on it before. The setup above. And I loved it.

I heard that y pipe with catback is loud in any situation, but now you're saying its nice quiet deep tone? PAREDLINE and SLAMMED, do you happen to have outside sound/video clips of it?

Is it rapsy? I was thinking about doing this but the muffler shop I went to told me it would be raspy with this setup (custom 2.5", resonated, dynomax super turbo).

Also, are there muffler shops that can do mandrel 2.5" piping for a reasonable price? It seems most of them only do pressure bends.

Nope. Sorry. And loud is relative. what you may consider loud is what we consider not so loud and vice versa. I'm 28 years old and the other dude is 25 or something like that. We dont want to look like rice heads. We'd never get laid.

If you want people to hear your fart machine drive around then that setup is not good.

It was a deep throaty sound. Kinda like a porsche. Notice when a porsche is at idle, it's quiet. But when you push it then it has a nice deep vroom.

Ok understood. I'm 16 and i dont want to sound like a ricer either. That porsche example you gave is my ideal exhaust.

What kind of y pipe was it?

The guy made the Y pipe. It was perfect for my needs. It was a shop that makes custom mufflers for race cars.

The only problem I had with it was that the flex pipe broke after 3 years. I cant give you any long term results because I sold the car and bought my I30.

I saw pictures of the stillen Y pipe a few days ago in a post. It had equal length pipes for each cylinder bank. I would get that one if I was to get a Y pipe again. I think Stillen and Cattman (?) has equal length pipe for each cylinder bank (the Y parts are equal length).

I'm having computer problems and the server I normally use to host things like that is down at the moment. I do have the clips recorded on my digital multitracker though so they are made and ready to be transferred onto my computer, I just have no way to host them right now!

By the way as a follow up on the Borla, it seems to have gotten slightly deeper and a bit more quiet after a week of driving with it. If I get my server up and running I will host them right away, otherwise if someone wants me to email the clips to them I can do that as well

I think Stillens new design is the only one that has equal-length pipes. Cattman's equal-length Y's come with the headers and will only fit those headers.

Is this exhaust considered deep or a little ricy?
hahahahahaha

I *knew* this had to be me the second I saw it.

Took those vids right after the exhaust was installed. It sounds different now, and the sound on those vids is just not accurate. The closest vids to the way the car sounds in real life are these three:

http://www.v6atlanta.com/max_vids/ma...low_vs_dog.avi
http://www.v6atlanta.com/max_vids/magnaflow/b_29.avi
http://www.v6atlanta.com/max_vids/magnaflow/takeoff.wmv

I'll break out a new camera this week and upload some better vids.

My exhaust is very loud, make no doubt about it. It's deeper and more raspy than in those vids now.

Think about it. I've basically got a straight pipe from the collector back. The muffler was picked because I liked the way it looked. I knew it was going to be crazy combined with the rest of the piping.

For those who can get by a little bit of rowdyness, the exhaust sounds mean taking off slow from a stop. It's almost as loud at idle as it is at 6K RPM. After 3500 RPM, it's music to my ears. Not saying that because it's mine, the pipe really does sound good.

If you are looking for a quiet exhaust, you just wasted a ton of time reading this.

BTW: A friend on the ORG has the same mods as me, minus the b-pipe and you can barely hear his car. If my OEM hadn't rusted off, I would have left it.

I started the thread and was just asking b/c I just haven't heard any Maxima exhaust in person so I wouldn't know the difference.

Do you still live in Newnan? I might be up there this weekend and would like to hear the exhaust in person.
