AE headlights plus a lil black reflection in housing<<<<

im getting a set of new 97+ headlights from a buddy of mine and i def wanna do the AE mod to get that aggresive look. i would also like to have the housing of the headlight to look less chromy (i know it may mess up the light out put) but i had an idea. after opening up the housing and dooing the AE mod i wanted to spray the inner top part of the housing ("the roof")or part of it black so that it will reflect off the housing and give it a more aggrsive look, sorta like certain models of the previous gen gallant. i jus wanted to know will it drasticly affect the light out put, i mean the stock out put is pretty ****ty as it is.

im not painting all of the chrome housing, just the top part, which you wont see unless u bend own and look. i just want to have the black reflecting off the housing to give it that mean look. is this a good idea or should i just stick to the AE mod.

not the best example but i hope u see what i mean, the chrome housing has a lil reflection of black in it, looks dark and evil lookin

I am not sure if it will affect light output. I didn't do it but my friend did and his lights were never as bright as mine.

You also might want to convert to 9007 while you are doing the AE mod.

back to the housing thing, i was thinking it may affect the ligt output, but i doubt it would be by much, not enough to seriously hurt me, unless it rains. but ill be geting some fog lights too so that may help in the short distance.

i think it will affect the light output your headlights make. every part of the reflector housing reflects light out onto the road. maybe you wont notice the diff but i think it will be there. 9004 isnt really the brightest bulb anyways.

Mr ****. would you be able to get some close up pics of your headlights. I think they look pretty damn nice. I was think of doing this with white paint, since my max is white, not sure how it would look. And are those VW side marker lights? Looks good,
I was thinking of putting 2004 max side marker lights on mine.

I bought some Sylvania Xtravisions when I did the conversion. They are OEM color (no blue film) and they are bright enough. They should last a long time and were pretty cheap.

The problem with having blue film is that it actually makes it dimmer. The bulb has to over compensate for the film while most of the time maintaining the wattage spec so they will blow out prematurely.

I would suggest getting an upgrading harness, convert it to 9007, and just AE the like in the pic above. That is how I did it.

I also painted the little metal circle thing that goes around the bulb end black. Since I have 95/96 headlights it really isn't noticable but it does add a tiny bit of black reflectiveness when the lights are off.

if you want paint the inside of the lens.

it looks more like the real 01 AE since it goes around the whole light.
