AirConditioner & Transmission - common link?
Hey guys, its been a long time since i last posted.
As usual its another problem thats driven me to post.
My AC Compressor recently failed/locked up and shredded my belts and destroyed the main pulley assembly(What Fun!).
Anyway, i have had a mechanic replaced the AC comp, pullley, belts etc...
Now the belts squeal a bit when starting(idler pully is fully tight, and i have applied belt dressing). I can live with this, what i cant deal with is when the AC is running @ idle its blasting cold air, and when i start driving its still blasting ansd stays that way.
This is where it gets interesting, with the AC on in either Auto or Econ mode, the car cant seem to pick a gear above 1400rpm, it stutters, knocks, then suddenly drops gear to neautral and almost redlines, before dropping into 1st or 2nd and taking off....
On the interstate it drives pretty well, unless the AC is on, then it seems to choose to upshift for no reason, dropping the rpms and the car starts losing momentum before the knocking lurching gear change again, and suddenly it takes off again... Its driving me nuts and i know this cannot be good for the engine.
What can i do, what can i test without going to the stealership? Im pretty poor so help a guy out please! The guy i got to install the AC, is a backyard mechanic, but he knows his stuff, and has checked all the AC stuff, its fine. like i said as long as its idling the AC kicks pretty good, and it seems to work all the time, it just kills the transmissions shifting ability for some freakish reason.
Thanks yall
BG
Edit* one thing i forgot, the first time it did the stutter/stall thing and the engine knocked, it threw the CEL, so i checked and got frontleft 02, front right 02, and knock sensor... I reset and even though it has knocked since then, the codes and cel havent come back...?
Im thinking this could be a knock sensor thing maybe? is the KS referenced by the AC? Any other ideas?
