rack and pinion problem?

I wanted to know if any of you might know how I could check which side is messed up or if it even is the rack and pinion. recently when I punch the gas my car would pull to the left. I noticed when I punch the gas and let it go it feels like my car hidroplanes for a bit moving from side to side. but just in the last two days when I punch the gas the car pulls to the right. the car was just recently alligned and when left in neutral it goes straight. as well as when braking it goes straight. the problem is the acceleration. since it changed from pulling from the left to the right I wonder if both are going bad.

I forgot to mention that right before this started I had to disasemble the passanger side knuckle to get a new bearing pressed in becuase it had gone bad so I'm not sure if I might have damanged anything.

along with this problem when i turn and hit bumps or go of a driveway I hear metal cluncking which a friend of mine said it might be the springs that are not siting right on the sturt assembly but dont know if all this might be related.

Almost definately a strut problem. Probably a weak spring on one side of you car, the right side?, the one the engine makes it pull too. Is that the side it clunks on when you hit big bumps? Steering has nothing to do with acceleration, cause nothing is involved except the transmission and the wheels, besides the engine. Suspension causes the drifty feeling, you're still in control, but when you hit the gas it feels like you are floating. Cause your wheels are connected to the struts which control everything you feel basically, so if one is bad, that wheel goes one way only and the other wheel follows. Only slightly.

That isn't detected in re-alignment usually, they won't tell you what you don't pay for, so take it to a mechanic, and ask him if your struts are bad or leaking oil. Leaking struts will squeak, if you push on each side of your car, a bad spring will be noticable, if it's really bad.
