6.5"
noticed you joined recently... if you want input on the speakers, try the I.C.E subforum, or possibly even the sounddomain forum, i use that a lot for troubleshooting and what not..

"First off, I'm real **** when it comes to speakers. A am a bit of an audiophile and am a certified sound engineer. I auditioned many speakers (Sonys, Alpines, Kenwoods, Rockfords, Polks, Pioneers, Bostons, etc.) in many stores for 2 weeks before I could decide what I wanted. I knew I was looking for 6.5"ers with good bass response since I'm not planning on adding a sub to my 2001 Chevy Blazer.
Anyway, everything I had heard before my ears fell upon these gems, I wasn't too in love with. Most speakers were either too lifeless, or have too much high/low and no mid. In my opinion, what makes these great overall is that they have fantastic flat response across the entire range. Nothing too accented at any frequency which many other speakers tend to do.
Now alot of the other reviews complain these have no low end. This is true, in fact they sound pretty weak around 100Hz and lower. However, this speaker probably has the most tightly crisp low end I heard from any 6.5" when you begin to add EQ. I have, and was able to audition these with my Pioneer DEH-4600 receiver and mess around with the EQ settings to match what I favor. There is an excessive amount of punch in the bass (around 40Hz - 50Hz, even though the speakers are rated at 53Hz, they go lower), so much that it shakes the seats and you can feel the air pushing from them. If you don't believe me, I invite anyone to step into my vehicle and hear for yourself. These speakers do have great bass, you just have to find it! I even created my own test tone CD of low frequencies to help pin-point interior vibrations in my truck, and these speakers handled every track without sweating.
The mids are clear and the stereo imaging is near amazing. The only complaint I have is about the highs. Generally they are clear, but vocal syllabence and brass instruments seem to painfully slice through my head. I didn't pick up on this at the store, as I did with other speakers.
The product build quality is very high quality, but there is an excessive amount of glue on the cone under the tweeter which ruins the slick silver design. This kind of makes the otherwise solid construction sloppy, but if your planning to use speaker covers it's no big deal. Installation was a snap and enough screws are provided with mounting brackets, so you have many options on how to bolt them in.
Overall, these are powerful even with my standard head unit at 22W per channel, and I would recommend them as the best affordable 6.5" on the market today. In my book, this is the only speaker that deserves an overall rating of 5 next to certain Polks and Rockfords."
If a sound engineer approves they must be good (review #4)

I had the 6x9 infinity reference speakers in the rear deck of my 3rd Gen and no front speakers and they were plenty loud. I had Kappa seperates in another car as well and I will always look at infinity first. I would say spring a couple extra bucks and get the kappas.
Regarding fitment I noticed Sounddomain says the 7 inch speakers are a perfect fit. I haven't checked out the speakers yet to see for myself. Does anyone have anything to add on the fitment of a 6.5 vs a 7 in the front or rear of a 4th Gen?

Infinity Kappa, 652's are the best for 2-ways. Break them in correctly, and they rock out. I don't have any subs right now, cause i listen to mostly metal and rock. But those speakers destroy. This isn't an epinions so... I hear Reference is Ok, but the Kappas are great, you pay more but $30 is worth it. Obviously none have low end, cause they are 2-ways. If you want low end get a sub, no in car speaker will ever give you good bass, so save the money for a sub...there you have it.

Speakers take forever to wear out if used correctly, I don't know what "breaking in" you are talkign about.
as far as kappa's go, since they are less sensitive, you would benefit more from references since they will play louder without needing as much power, kappa's are power hungry, but sound great when amped with 30+ rms.
You need to break in any new speaker, pretty much anything you could think of, including headphones and home theater speakers. You use them a little at first, just so they sound in the middle. DO that for a while, hours if you can just let it go, that's the normal level. Then turn it up and see how it sounds. Usually you should just break them in while you listen, and you will notice a difference after a while. You definately shouldn't just crank it after install and expect the best. It doesn't matter if you just got an amp and some components. No speakers are 'pre'-broken in so have patience. This includes subs, for all the bass folks out there.
Heh, I was actually waiting for you to say that. I have worked with several electrical engineers my entire life, and even one that did work for denon at one point, and I can assure you there is no such thing as breaking in a speaker or especially a cable. On the other hand, Ive met two psychology professors and they both agree that you 'break in' your ears extensively.
Well, it's good to see you went to college. I've never heard of breaking in a cable. But new speakers, being mostly plastic, rubber and fabric, do better AFTER they are new. I know how sound emulation works, so don't bother explaining it 'oh engineer'. The metal coils also benefit from being 'used'. Heat is always a problem, and most speakers make less heat after they are used, for some reason, could you explian that? Therefore, they would be more efficient. Unless they just deteriorate after opening.
Anyway, Kappas are great, make sure you are patient and use the crossovers they give you. It will sound amazing.

Never Forget... If you're picky about sound, audition speakers before you buy them. Reviews will give you a good idea of how something sounds, but you will not know if you like it until you hear it yourself. Find a local store that has them and try them out so at least you know for sure.
One more thing decker. You can go to each and every store and audiotion every damn speaker in the wall. But at the end of the day you Still wont have an idea of how any of those speakers will sound in your car. LOCATION- INSTALL- ACOUSTICS OF THE VEHICLE-SUPPORTING ELECTRONICS- these all have a drastic impact on the sound of any speaker- whether it be an inexpensive kappa set up, or a set of cdt eurosports. I went through 3 sets of comps before i settled on my cdt/elemental designs set. And even then I had to tweak the install quite a bit for it to sound good. There are quite a few reflections in a max. But since you are looking at coaxes, I don't think that its too much of a concern. BTW- sound deaden your doors. It will help midbass alot.
