a long term test in car&driver in 1995 reported that the projected life of the front brake pads on the 95 maxima se after driving it for 40000 miles is 140,000miles! i have 93000 miles on my 95 max se, still on stock pads.
Fellow 95 max owners, how long have your stock pads lasted?

rotors?

Just wondering about the rotors. For you guys who got these great mileages out of the pads, what about the rotors? any problems with any of the rotors before the pads worn out? And by chance do you guys still have the stock rotors in your cars?

I drive mostly streets in NYC, and my pads worn out more than half way at 25k...

My 95 Max orig brakes have 101,000 miles. They have grooved my front rotors so tat I will need new rotors and pads in about 10-20000 miles. Pretty darn good though!

For me it was lots of hwy miles with speeds fo 85+ for hours on end. BUT when the radar detector went off-I jammed those brakes! I thought it was pretty incredible myself and never heard of brakes lasting so long!

highway

if its all highway miles, where you dont need to use your brakes obviously, then they will last a long time. i bought an MX-6 with 122K on it back in the day (way back) and it was still on the original pads and rotors. its all about how much you have to use them...if you put on 40,000 highway miles a year because you drive 40 miles to work and 40 miles back and drive a minimum amount in the city then sure they will last you a nice long time.

It has a lot to do with the type of driving you do. Does anyone know if the 99 uses the same rotor, caliper and pads as the 95's?

damn city

For the city here, I have to use the brakes a good bunch of times, be it the stop signs, stop lights, moronic pedestrians, retarded drivers, etc....
just incredible...
My brakes squeal too since someone put some crappy bendix pads in them...gotta go get them changed in a while...damn squeal is killing me.

My 120,000 was probably 60 percent city 40 percent highway if you can call a stop and go, traffic choked interstate highway driving. My Max has only two speeds; full throttle and full stop. I continue to be amazed at the durability of this car.

my pads (brakes, that is!)

i drive in NYC at least once a week, and drive rather aggressively. i've got 93000 miles and counting on my stock brake pads. at last check, my pads were still good. yes, the durability of these pads are impressive. i wish i could say the same thing about these damn O2 sensors!
