What is going on here?

What is going on, on this website? It seems everyone is getting very quick tempered. In so many posts arguments are occuring over stupid things. I.E. taillights, wheels, grilles, performance parts etc. etc.

Why is there so much hate?

This website use to be real nice to come to for help, to show off your car, to show off a project you're working, etc. Now it just seems that all you get are people cussing, and downgrading everyone else.

We're supposed to be Maxima enthusiasts. People who want to come together because of a similar interest and encourage individuality.

All can very easily give an opinion without trying to provoke one another. And all can stop being offended so easily. This website seems to be changing from Maxima.org for Maxima Enthusiasts into crap.

I think what you are noticing is some frustration voiced by certain members who are upset that people don't read the FAQs, stickies, scroll through recent threads to avoid reposts, and perhaps use their head and take a minute or two to determine if they really need to ask the question they have before researching in order to determine if its potentially already been answered.

Some illustrations are the numerous y-pipe, fuel economy and routine maintenance concerns repeatedly surfaced.

My theory:

The average ’95-’99 Maxima Owner’s Age has drop quite a bit.

The more mature older crew we purchased the car new, have moved on to bigger and better things.

Hence, a large number of younger, “know it all kids” “ricers” have taken over the 4th generation forums.

They pay little respect to each other, and flame each other like school children.

The effect: the overall quality of the forums has gone down.

Few older members have kept their cars, and they refuse to post the answers to the same questions.

THIS THREAD SUCKS!! IT'S NOTHING WITHOUT PICS!! READ THE STICKIES, EVERYTHING IS IN THERE!!! WHAT!? YOU DIDN'T READ THE STICKIES BEFORE POSTING A QUESTION!? YOU DUMB*SS, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!!? ANYTHING BUT RED/CLEAR TAILS IS FUGLY!!

Anytime an environment is created where someone won't ask for help because they're afraid of getting flamed or called stupid doesn't HELP the situation nor does it bring people TO the org.

I haven't been here long enough to see a change, but it's pretty obvious there are a few immature people on here and many who really need to stop wearing their heart on their sleeve when it comes to criticism or differing opinions.

You have probably hit the nail on the head. As one of the old timers, I am pleased to report that I am keeping my 95 Maxima that I've owned since day 1. It got 58,400 mostly highway miles on it, is mint, and is worth a lot more to me than I could ever sell it for.

This trend to a younger 4th Gen crowd has become more noticeable in the last 6 months or less.

The only advice I can give is to respect the rules of the website and think before you ask a question or present a problem for solving.

well one way to solve this is on the moderators part once some one starts bashing or acting childdish they should just temporarily ban them or what ever they have to do.

Agree. I didn't expect this forum would like the way it is. People usually get along b/c they have similarities, which in this case, we all own a maxima. Recent thread that I read yesterday, members flaming as simple as misspelled word(s). Chill out & take it easy, we are here for the same reason, to improve.

its sad... i traded in my 96 max, for a 2005 magnum sxt... nice car.. but i missed the maxima... so i bought me a 99 SE 5-speed as a second car and let the wife drive the magnum.

i came here for all the help and loved the site, now.. i have come back. its a bunch of gutter mouth kids, that dont want to help any one and would rather pick a fight with some one than help or compliment. so what if you dont like some ones rims or tail lights, its not on your car so respect there choice, some one asking questions if they are newbs then they probably dont have the search feature, so if you cant find it in a sticky, are they to scroll threw the millions of posts so find it?

i have to agree the 4th gen area has gone down in age, iq, and temperment... i hope the org grows up alittle..

my 2 cents and you can flame me for it if you want!

Yeah..i can pretty much repeat what all of you have said. I joined last july when i came across the ORG while surfing the net at work. Back then, it was pretty nice...people didnt flame others so easily. only like really stupid obvious mistakes....but hey who doesnt make mistakes? i guess Im one of the younger ones...but i always to respect the older guys, since they have more experience. and I like the idea that if someone gets too heated about something small, they should be banned temporarily.

Do you see this little icon under every member's signature area?

It was put there for a reason. If you see someone getting out of hand then use it. You can't expect swift action if you sit there and start an argument back with that same person...that's when people start getting ugly.

Lastly, I don't know if you're a member of any other forum but unfortunately in this day and age (unless heavily moderated) all forums will be like this. I can describe an instance on 6 other forums I go to...most being automotive. People have their opinions and people have their bad days...it's just a fact of life and it's easier for them to be aggressive/rude over the internet and not to your face. I'm desensitized towards it.

I agree with the fact it's EVERYWHERE (however it doesn't make it right). I remember on zdriver.net, I used to ask questions such as "How hard is it to swap a TT engine into an N/A car, w/ normal handtools and no experience?", "Is this car worth $xxxx?" etc, and those people always answered my very repetitive questions without any hassle. Thankfully, getting my hands dirty has made me grow a lot, thanks to the .org, and when I went back to Zdriver.net, I found the same thing on their forums. Those same questions were getting bashed left and right, by the same people who had helped me through my imaturity so much.
By the way, thanks to Rizzspeed and everyone else on zdriver.net

The "Great Taste" thread was destined for a flamewar from the beginning. Nobody can expect to come onto any kind of forum with enough arrogance and not expect both positive & negative replies. He blew up on people just because they said they didn't like it.

although i only officially joined this board last fall, ive been visiting the site since mid 2002 (i use to own an accord up till then ) but knew about the org through a friend whos been on since 2000. when i use to visit back then it was so much more positive and people were much more respectful - i think alot of has to do with the fact as someone stated above that a younger crowd has been able to now afford the 4th gen and so the maturity level has dropped many times. (dont get mad all you teenagers - im not talking to all of you. there are a handful of 17-18 yr olds that know more than i do but they mostly post in the advanced performance forums and have "grown up") nonetheless, a little bit of respect can go a loooong way. its easy to be a tough guy behind a computer screen - real men just let things go realizing that arguing on the internet is pointless. its past time we all take responsibility and learn to respect everyone even if you disagree w/ them and make the Org what it use to be - a place where people could feel good about talking about their max to other owners and not always be scared that theyre going to have the hell flamed out of them. my .02

I agree too. I have always LOVED cars and when I got my Maxima, I was excited to find this website so that I can learn more about modding/mechanics, etc. Because I don't have any mechanical knowledge/experience I've had some really rude people try and make me feel stupid when I've asked questions. The whole purpose of the forum is to be able to help one another out. There are all kinds of people on here with various levels of experience in different areas. We all own and love Maximas and its too bad there are immature people who cause trouble. Everybody has different opinions on what looks good on a Max and we should all respect that. If you don't like what somebody has done to their car, or you think their question is stupid, why bother wasting your time just to put them down?? Its easy for people to act like jerks when they don't have to talk face to face. Just leave the thread and move on if you've got nothing productive to say. BTW, this is a good thread!

just report a bad post when you see it. let the moderators handle it.

I agree the flaming is getting pretty retarded around here. Either say somethign that is helpful or don't waste the ORG's database space and bandwidth by posting something useless.

Oh I thought it was just the 4th gen setion. It is sad thought I remember about 5 months back this forums was excellent and very friendly an occational flame here and there but still very plesant way to burn a few hours off the day, but things have sadly and dramatically changed.

Its even more obvious when you go to another forum and read around check out the posts and such and see people very supportive and helpful regardless of how "noobish" the question may seem. (I speak of the 240sx forums, and m350z section).

It is an embarassment to be part of the 4th gen forum. My frustration is targeted to the (usually) younger population that do not at least TRY to search for the answer. Kevlo911 designed a poor man's search engine for those that did not/cannot donate 20 dollars. There are those that post pictures of their cars and ask for opinions, but start crying when they cannot take constructive criticism. Some create a new thread asking the same question the moron two threads above him created.

The site is full of useful information but individuals that are plenty lazy just want the question answered. I'm hardly a veteran, but I believe there should be more mods to delete unneccessary threads and moderate the subforum.

Also, I believe the "racing" section has opened the doors to those who love to brag about their street races but no close to nothing about their cars. Thats just my opinion.

I agree completely, either more moderation of the threads, or we should report the thread that have seriously skewed from the original subject to a childish insult fight.

I agree 100% that there needs to be more moderation and theres a bunch of ways that the mods can do it. One forum I use requires that new topics be approved first by a mod so there isnt a bunch of repeated stuff (aka y-pipe, intake, LEDs). But yeah, it seems like a lot of people here say that the 4th gen section is their least favorite on the org.

Well, I'm going to be like everyone else on this thread and say 'yes, i agree'.
I understand that I am new and I am young so I'm sure I'm already a target for this thread however I believe that I have been very courteous for my few questions and replies. I uphold the greatest respect for the majority on here because the ideas and thoughts put into their vehicles shows they are knowledgable people. I enjoy this site but I do not enjoy reading posts that are useless because half of the thread is bashing, flaming, and sly comments.

The search function would be very helpful to newbies but I understand that it eats bandwidth. I use Yahoo with the search string containing maxima.org and it does a pretty decent job. I will pay the $20 when I believe that it will be worth my money to support a site that supports me.

It does get kinda annoying when people waste space with dumb questions and then flaming comes along. But these days, there are a lot of bashing and flaming on eachother.

Hopefully the org wont turn into a honda forum!

I agree with this post. There is way too much bashing going on. I'am happy to help someone else who needs some information that I have, either like diagrams from alldata or something that I know and would share. But some people don't make a effort to search for anything. They just start new posts like what type or bulb fit in my tail lights. I mean for something as simple as that. Come on?? The first thing should be done is that you can not reply in a post or start a new thread until you read through all of the Sticky's. I haven't been a member for a very long time here and I relize that you can find just about anything you need to know in the Sticky's. So guy's play nice.

I have been to a lot of car forums and this is the first that I have ever run into that requires you to PAY for the option to search. Yes you can use google and search the site in other ways but it does hamper your ability to get information quickly. Which then leads to reposts about duplicate information. Maybe this is where the frustration is coming in. If people could just search on the site itself and not have to ask repeated question, it would alleviate some of the problems. The "stress" that is stated that it puts on a server to queue a DB is not that much and I think it's just a little retarded that is the reason they need donations. This is just a sad ploy to have to get around the donation, I know I’ll pay but I thought I would give this a shot.

the funny thing is I used the org as a buying dission for my car my friend had a 5 speed max I use to make fun of him all the time tell I realized how fast it was when he let me drive it. I was sold, I really looked up to the older guys like arrafio and the max grew on me. To tell you the truth the saerch fuction is gone which really kills this site but i guess it is worth paying 20 bucks to search and for people not to repeat the same questions every day not to mention to be honest the stuff I learned ont the org is def worth more than 20 bucks hehehehh I just need to pay someday.

I have found the *.org to be a source of Maxima information that has been very informative, hostile, and sometimes boring. I've read posts, including my own, that have turned into "chumming the sharks". Lots of posts wind up as extended arguments or pissing contests. Tough crowd, read the stickies.

with all this said, what truly can be done about it?
i think if we don't post in the threads that are "stupid" and also to the repeat questions, i think this will slowly go away.
so if you see a dumb thread, dont tell them they are dumb just let it be and don't respond.

Exactly, but then youve still got all the 16 year olds that wont ignore it, and have to flame away and make 3 pages just arguing with each other. I think the mods approving a new topic before it gets put up would work great, but thats just my opinion. Mods need to regulate a little more I think

The mods have minds of their own, they wouldn't ban a known scammer but would quickly ban someone for something else. People have complicated allegiances and alliances in here but that's beside the point. I do agree with those who mentioned about many reposting something that have been discussed or post a thread w/o first reading the faqs or combing thru threads thus creating some degree of frustration mostly for those who see many of the same pointless threads posted numerous times.
