who would take this one? i have a 97 maxima 5speed and i believe my take offs are pretty well, compared to races i have been in. anyways, there is some guy at my school who talks **** about my car and other crap, i barely know him, but the other day, in school parking lot traffic, he starts revving ans stuff at me and he's just making a fool of himself. you know who would win? i believe his LS400 is early to mid 90's model. pretty boxy looking. they look like tanks but they do have V8s, how do you think this race will turn out? thanks

if you shift good, you should have him. Watch high speeds though cause once they get going they are pretty quick. My dad beat one up to about 50 in my gle, manualy shifting. What am i saying, its a damn maxima, of course you will smoke him.

Ok...Up until 100 you should have him...after that, it will probably be evenn. That car has most likely 240hp and tq. If its 95+ you gotta watch out as they have 260hp and tq and are faster..I saw a video with 96 ls burning an impala
Anyhow, you can probably still beat them as you have the 5-speed..

I agree you should be able to take him at the 1/4 mile if it's an early 90's. If it's the mid/late nineties, it'll be close, but don't give anything to him... when the light turns green, mash it to the floor and don't let go.

You're probably better off not manually shifting with the auto, as full throttle to the carpet will cause the computer to pretty much shift at redline at each gear.

I ran a mid/late 90's LS400 with the more powerful engine at the Sac Speedway (when my car, a 96 gxe auto at that time only had like 1800 miles) and the time slips came out 16.01 for me vs 16.001 for him. he was a young kid and said that was his mom's new car. However, my car wasn't broken in and my reaction time was better, so I won the race. He had a much higher trap speed (probably like 5mph or so), so if the race needed another 10-20ft, he probably would've beat me (this confirms what g-ride and sweetsound noted about the top end).

I was ahead early on till about mid track, then he just started gaining on me like there was no tomorrow. I couldn't tell who won when we crossed the line, it was very close. However, as my max racked some miles, I guess the engine loosened up a bit, and I would be able to score 15.8 the next time I went, then 15.6, then 15.4 the time after that (with about 18,000 miles) on the car.

btw, goto the track if you want to run him. not only is it safer, but you don't have to worry about cops and nobody can cheat the timing lights/staging lights!

Ls400 any time, very good car, as far as speed 0 to 60, probably beat a max. handling is excellent. driving at high speed is like driving 10mph on a max. so comfortable, really feels like sitting on a sofa.

too bad the stock stero isnt that good compare to a max. nakamichi upgrade cost 3000$ not worth it.

Lets see here a 93 LS 400 that was tested by Motor Trend got the following #'s
It has 250HP and 260TQ
0-60=8.2 sec.
1/4=16.2 @88.9
Laterall Acceleration= .80 G's
Slalom=61.0

No compare that to a 97 5spd Max
0-60=7.1
1/4=15.5
The handaling #'s are also suppierior.

Anyways bottom line is a 5spd max will easaly beat a old LS400 in any race scenerio.
