When I crank my car - it stutters heavily...??
I installed a new starter today. I know I did it 100% complete. After I installed it I started the car, it hesitated for a split second...then turned over.
Now, I tried to crank it after sitting for 3 or hours...and when I attempt to crank it, the RPM guage bounces up to 2k - stays there for about 1/2 a second then drops - Im NOT giving it gas, just turning the key.
If I keep trying it will eventually start up, but WTF is going on with it?
I dropped the tranny 2 nites ago to put the clutch in - bolted everything up **EDIT** (99%) perfect.
I DONT think it's fuel related because its on crank ups only. I doubt I have dirty injectors/fuel lines because all I run is 93, and it was seafoamed not too long ago. It's getting spark for a fact...plugs are fairly new w/ under 10k miles on them....
Im confused

Your ECU is not getting a start signal.
Its the last prong on your ignition switch. When the computer does not receive this signal that the vehicle is trying to start, you get this type of behavior.
Check the Start Signal Fuse. Under the dash. If thats good then change your ignition switch.

I have this exact same problem. DOesn't happen all the time...maybe 30%. when it has trouble, the cranking is not continuous but notable for hiccups or very brief pausing and the resuming. At first I thought it was a fuel problem because the car would backfire after a few attempts, but the fuel pressure is normal. I ruled out the crank sensors, the electrical system and the starter.
My ignition switch should be here tomorrow or tues. I am HOPING that it fixes this because the car is perfect in any other way. It is freaking embarrassing having the POS cranking, pausing, and not starting up right away when others are around.

Ok my damn battery ground-to motor was loose....I tightened it, and its still givin me sh*t.
I guess the ignition switch is it....it's just that block fuse in the box under the hood to the right of the intake - THATS the specific one youre talking about?

The ignition switch is in the steering column on the opposite side of the lock cylinder.
