Another Y-pipe Thread(exhaust wrap)

Does not wrapping your after market y-pipe(budget) with exhaust wrap do anything to the engine? Ive heard that SS gets much hotter and was wondering if that could damage the engine or other parts/seals.

adding exhaust wrap to your ypipe will wear it down quicker.

you could wrap the flex in aluminum foil and use hose clamps to quiet it down also.

but the exhaust wrap will wear the pipe down.

I was told by two local racing shops not to use exhaust wrap. It retains moisture, dirt and salt which can result in corrosion to the y-pipe. Exhaust wrap was designed for racing applications and that is all that it should be used for.

Yup, don't do it. The pipe should be able to release the heat anyway it can. Heat wrap would be best on intake piping which would keep the air a bit cooler.
