225s should be fine on 8s they might be a little streched... but not bad.... I had a set of 225/45/17s on 17x9s .... they worked fine but a little too streched for my taste... come to think of it BMW runs 225s on 8" factory wheels

Since you already have one, just get 3 more of the same exact tire.

DO'NT GET THE 225/40/18!!!!!!
You're gonna regret it. You're in NY, doesn't matter if its the city. With so many potholes on the road these days, you're gonna dent your rim. I have 225/40/18 on my rims now n i have 2 lil dents. reason why i have these tires because they came off of an RSX and honda's n acura have a smaller wheel-well then we do. 235/40 is about .5 inch with radius higher than 225.40. If you are lowered to one finger gap all around, thats another inch off the ground which is a lot. you might not think so but it is. you can get 225/45/18, they'll still fit, but not recommended but thats what i would get if i were to get new tires. but they're relatively more expensive than 235/40 which would be the only reason i would get the 235/40 rather than the 225/45
