AE Mod using other colors

I'm finally going to AE the headlights on my 95 SE. However, instead of the black/graphite wheel paint, I want to use a color close to the pebble beige on my Maxima. Perhaps a bronze or something darker than beige.

Has anyone else tried using a different color on their AE mods? Please post pics if you have. Thanks.

It crossed my mind to do a different color when I was prepping to do mine, but any other color on my black maxima would just look tacky

I haven't seen it done though

I think it would look very nice as long as the paint matches pretty well. They good thing is if it doesnt look good, sand it down or just spray over with Black.

If it had a different color Max I definately would try it. I think it will look just as good as the body painted grills on the 5th gens.

I have the same mesh like you do on my car but I painted it. I sandeded it down, primer, black, clear. Its starting to show age already but I know I didnt do the best job and could have sanded a bit more, but all prep done properly and coats applied properly and sufficient time to dry before next coats it would look good. Have you checked out autozone? they might have a color pretty close to your cars color.

I went to the Duplicolor website and got these colors for comparison.

(I added one more color.)

Which color do you guys think will match? I think Cummins Beige is the closest match.

i agree. although a perfect color match would obviously be ideal, i don't think it would be bad if you were a little off since 95-96 aren't clear like 97-99, so you won't be able to seee it completely anyway.

True...

I wanted to have a bit of a contrast as well. And for that, I think the cast coat aluminum or graphite would be ideal. From those who've used graphite, it actually looks a lot darker in the headlight. Perhaps the cast coat aluminum would show a bit lighter.

why not open your driver side door... read the paint code written on the sticker... then go to a paint mixing shop and buy yourself a quart?

*idea* i can start buying these quarts for you and shipping them out ... sweet my summer job is set

I thought of doing that however, it'll have to be high temp not just the usual to resist heat inside the headlight housing. I have to find out and see if these guys can mix me up a high temp paint.

actually you dont need engine enamel to do the AE mod many have used regular duplicolor paint or flat black (mzmtg) and have a great result with no chipped, wear, etc over time. You'll most likely find the color to match your car if its regular paint, engine enamel is different.

especially because I have a pebble beige Maxima as well and I was actually thinking of Nighthshading the corner lenses also. That was my original plan when I was considering the black or graphite enamels.

Hmmm.....loooks nice but I think the tint is too dark. How many coats of nightshade did you apply? I might do fewer coats because I don't want it that dark. Funny I used to like them dark but somehow, my taste had changed. But what I really want to do is paint the inside of the corner and bumper lamp housings, kinda like the CE JDM ones. I just don't know what will happen if I do the same and paint the reflectors in the corner lamps, it might not light up well.

BTW, did you use graphite or black enamel?

please people read clearly before asking questions. The turn signal and side markers are the only pieces that received the night shade treatment. If I recall weel, it was a couple of coats with a couple more of clear coat. The headlights, as well as corners were done with gloss black spray paint. Then finished off with high temp. clear coat. The light out put coming from the corners is pretty much irrelevant. If you still wnat light from it then just do the trim. Duck changed his mind after I repeatedly asked him. his turn signals and sidemarker light up brighter than his corner. The nightshades makes it look darker from a DISTANCE. Up close you see how light it is.

All I can say is try the corners yourself, if you mess up you have a better reason for getting the 'CEJ DM corners'. The headlights are VERY easy to do.

Why would anyone want to nightshade their headlights? Isn't that self-defeating? It doesn't even make sense why would anyone try nightshading the headlights.

bumper lenses were painted over the outside with nightshades. He didn't pop open anything besides the corners, and the headlights.
