Recently my windshield whipers have decided to stop working. The motor makes a noise when i turn it on but the wipers dont move. IT seems like somethings not rotating or a gear is being skipped, or even something is stuck. I popped the cap off the wiper to make sure that the nut was tight and it was, we actually tried to take the wiper off but it wouldn't budge. Does anyone know how i might go about fixing this or now how much a new motor might coast and where to get it? thanx!!

 

I don't know much about them, consult a haynes manual.

Try lifting them off of your windshield and see if they can move then.

 

the motor connects to the wipers through 2 connecting rods. they have ball and socket joints. the sockets are plastic and wear over time. you really cant fix them, just replace them. take the wiper arms off, then pop out the cowl and take a look to see if they indeed have worn out.

 

yeah, but it's gonna be a ways down in there. Mine did it after I got my windsheild replaced so I went back and complained to Portland Glass and the guy fixed it even though he didn't have to. On mine the rods became unattached so we just popped them back on and so far it's working good...

 

Exactly what Jsutter said. This happened to me in a snowstorm in the middle of the highway. What a PITA! Luckily, the wipers broke just as I was going by a rest station .
