Navegation: who has one?
Navegation: who has one?
Any one put Navegation on their 4th Gen?
I saw a picture a while back of some one with a screen where the Bose HU is. It look cool. Who else has something like that? any info on price, etc?
I didn't want one of those units where the scree comes out from the radio unit, one one of those portable one.

yeah putting a screen there is common/easy, however hooking up a GPS system which is double-din is not.
unless you get an aftermarket system of course, but i don't think you'll find any 7" double-din systems... at least not yet.

I put a pioneer navigation touchscreen in the bose double din location (as most do with a normal screen) with a cd player mounted underneath in the din location for the pocket (right above the cig lighter and ashtray). I mounted the navigation unit under the passenger seat as there are no face mounted controls. Everything is either operated by the touchscreen or voice activated.
The Kenwood DDX-7015 offers navi and it's a double din fit. So it'll look kinda like factory, But it's gonna set you back a bit. both units together should run you around 2k. They get about 1100 to 1200 for the DDX-7015 and another 900 for the Navi
Sorry, no pics...no digi camera.
Mine is all pioneer, although the CD player could be anything. The NAV unit and the screen should be both Pioneer so they work together (i.e. touchscreen and voice recognition). I used an AVD-W6210 screen and an AVIC-80DVD NAV unit. Both are 2004 models.
It's not the cheapest route, although if you keep an eye out on ebay, you can piece it all together rather affordably, as the current Pioneer NAV models are either the AVIC N2 flipout, or the new AVIC D1 double din unit. The D1 have 2 disc drives, one for NAV DVD and the other is a cd/mp3, behind the flip down display. The D1 is cool as hell, because the drives are always hidden during normal use, and it is all in one package, but it doesn't have DVD movie capability, and since it's new, it's pricy.

Eclipse makes a nice one 2, except I think its double din, has nav, and plays dvds. just jump on ebay, go to car audio and electronics, do a search on "navigation double din" and narrow the choices from highest price to lowest, you should find some.
there are now 3 brands, the Eclipse units, the Kenwood Excelon units and the Pioneer AVIC D1, they are all pricey, the only other option was the very rare OE Nav, it was only on a few 99 I30's sold in California, and it requires three new trim pieces, the nav unit itself, the disc, the "AC Unit signal amp", remote temperature sensor, and revised wiring harness, these part numbers are not known, nor are they listed in the FSM, if you want the OE Nav.... good luck.
Pioneer D1-can't play DVD's when going above 30 mph. Below 30, I believe you are ok. Remote? I don't know. When I found out it can't play DVD's, I lost interest.
Eclipse- All in one, double din unit. No extra processor to stuff under the seat/in the trunk. Downfall is you can't run nav and watch a dvd at the same time. You can, however, run CD and nav at the same time though. Nice 5v output too. 3 year warranty. Security disc too. And, you can get it for $1600 installed.
Kenwood-Extra processor for nav, but now you can watch DVD and run nav at the same time. Kenwood gives you a nice remote. Eclipse doesn't give you a remote. The optional remote for Eclipse is lame too, and doesn't compare to Kenwood's remote. Kenwood new model, coming out in two months, will be ALL BLACK, and 5v output. That's what I'm waiting for. Kenwood has a higher pixel count than Pioneer and the same as Eclipse IIRC. Downfall is it's more pricey, around $2000 installed.
