Manual transmission spewing oil through overflow !!! ???

Hey guys, I changed my transmission fluid about 25000 miles ago and about 10000 miles later I verified the level and it was just fine.

Now, last week I was on a long highway trip (been doing just that in the past year as well) and when I stopped, I noticed my car smelled like oil.. I checked and behold, a good amount of transmission oil came through the overflow tube that oversees the transmission ?? Whats up with that ?? Anyone had any idea ? I didnt notice anything wrong with the shifting...

Thanks,

Cha

Wow, that doesn't make sense. The MT fluid should not be under pressure so as to come out that overflow tube unless it were overfilled - but that is remote seeing as you have checked the level and driven it many miles.

Wait...have you driven through deep water lately?? That overflow tube would make a perfect point of entry and oil would be the first thing to come out on top of the tranny. I would drain that sucker and see what comes out (gush of water) right away!

You probably put too much oil in the case and when Oil is Heated up it will expand quite a bit and will find a way out, this being your overflow tube...its there for a reason....if that was KINKED, you would have blown out your axle seals

Well, water intrusion was all I could come up with since he stated that he checked the level and has put alot of miles on it since.

Also, its pretty damn dificult to overfill our MTs - the fill hole is vertical and drains the excess - unless one is an idiot and bolts it back in place right away.
