Chargin AC question

Hey folks,

I was interested in chargin my AC. What the difference in takin it to jiffy lube and buying a can of refrigerant at Autozone and doin it myself? Is it easy. It looks as easy as putting ari in a tire...

Its easy to add it. The hard part is putting in enough and not over-charging it - which is very easy to do. More is not better in this situation-add too much and the you will get hot air - you will be forced to bleed it off and start over. Get a high-side gauge at least and use the ambient temperature table. Oh...and don't be a bone head and add the 134a as a liquid - ie turing the can upside down so the liquid runs into the low side because you are impatient. Keep the can upright so it goes in as a gas - it takes a little time. Compressors are designed to compress refrigerant gases!! Remember chemistry: solids and liquids are incompressable.

I would suggest that you dont rush it, just add a lil bit every day and test it.
If the AC gets cold your good.

Maybe you have a leak? So adding more without finding out if your system is good will...leak again?

I brought my Max to a local shop to get it fixed, it cost about $80. I wouldn't bring it to a jiffy lube place for just about anything, even an oil change. Your better off bringing to a gas station or small shop where the person working on your car its the owner and actually wants your business than a jiffy lube place where they earn min. wage and don't care.

I just got my AC charged professionally. It is a little cooler but it randomly gets hot and then gets cold. Its mostly cold during highway speeds but why is it still warm when I'm doing casual driving (40 MPH)? Also the temperature outside effects my AC as well. Its not as cold on hot days. Are the Maxima's with automatic climate controls just not as cold?
