Thinking about Coilovers

My struts are going bad so i'm looking into buying tokico illuminas. I was also thinking about buying coilovers but I am not sure which brand would best suit my needs. There are a lot of pot holes where I live so i don't want something too stiff. I have the eibach pro kit on right now which works pretty good but they are just lowering springs. Any suggestions on a good coilover brand?

if you dont want to go stiff, than stay away from coilovers. simple as that, coilovers will always be a bit sitffer than any spring/strut combo

in your case just buy the illuminas. You adjust the stiffness/softness of your ride, and you are already dropped. Trust me, with all the potholes around your area I doubt you will want to deal with adjusting coilovers. I would love to have coilovers, but the constant adjustment can get somewhat irritating. Just ask Duck, he seems to be messing with them every other day due to crappy city conditions...

would the stiffness depend on the ride height with coilovers?

No.....the stiffness depends on how you set the shock, and the pre-load . It has very little to do with ride height.

with coilovers the drop has absolutely nothing to do with the stiffness. with spring/strut combos the if you have your car lowered a lot, the shocks dont travel as much. I am finally done adjusting my suspension, i believe its all good now

i heard that an alignment was required every time you adjust. is that really necessary? i'm sure it would be good to get one right after you install them and then once more after you find the ideal settings, but if you just wanted to slam it one day or something, would you not be running the tires right? it's probably not necessary or critical, but would be ideal to get it after every adjustment, right?

I believe that once you adjust them it should be fine. I doubt you have to keep getting realigned. The best thing to do is to lift and lower the car until you are satisfied witht he height. Ride the car with the 'final' decision for a week or so to let it break in a bit. Then align your car.

If you want the struts GR-2 are fine. I wouldn't suggest those coilovers though. With coilovers you get what you pay for. What setup and how adjustable do you want your ride??

my car has H-tech with Gr-2's. If I re did it again, I would have gotten H-Tech's with Illuminas. I like the height because it's not too low, but I wish I could adjust the stiffness of the struts....
