There was a thread I read here once pertaining to the 97+ grille on a 95 or 96. The result was that almost everybody who went that route ended up sanding or cutting about a quarter of an inch off the grille bottom in order to assure proper fitment.

i have no problem with cutting the bottom of the grill. i know i have to do that and i already took measurements of how much i need to cut. i am goign this route cause the 97-99 grill looks way better then the 95-96 grill.

Most definitely, the 97 grill looks so much better. In addtion, the horizontal bar on the grill nicely complements the horizontal bar across the bumper opening.

The 97 grill is about 1" taller than the 95 one so trimming is definitely needed. I would start with a 1/4" cut and test fit, then mark what needs to be trimmed off and cut again. Repeat the process til the fit is good enough for you.

Here's a how-to in the Mod FAQs: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....6&page=2&pp=30

Post pics of yours when you're finished.

Since the grill has the round piece for the emblem to go on, you're pretty much stuck with the hamburger. However, you can try to find a hamburger off of a newer nissan that would fit that area. Just a thought.

i kind of like my 96 grill, looks more stealth than the 97 because i painted the NISSAN hamburger so it matches with the grill, so it looks all black.

I did the opposite. The 95-96 bumper looks like crap, so I replaced it with a 97-99 bumper (and clear bumper lights in the process). But I kept the 95-96 grill, looks better IMO. I'll lengthen the edges before I get the car painted so there's no gap between bumper and grill. I always preferred the 95-96 grill.

You can't, I tried that. All newer hamburger Nissan emblems are way, way bigger than ours. The surface area reserved for our hamburgers on the front grille must match the size of the emblem up to 1mm in exact measurements. Anything even slightly bigger or smaller will not look good.

Also, when you take off the emblem, there are 2 holes that will be exposed if you place a Nissan burger of different dimensions. I went ahead and painted my stock burger body color and it looks fantastic!

Note, however, that in order for the paint to hold well and so you don't have to redo this mod 25 times, you must, absolutely MUST sand the chrome off the burger (don't ask me how I know). After that, you MUST prime it for the paint to hold. I went through 4 burgers because I sanded either too hard or unevenly.

Finally I gave up, before I found this: the only true and easiest way to take the chrome off the burger was at my dad's work where they have this high pressure sand gun. No, a different type of sand gun. It's a gun from which actual sand (like the sand at a beach) flies out of at very high speed. ONLY that seemed to remove the chrome and made it look like 100% perfection. I primed and painted it, after which, let me tell you, it looks like a factory-made Nissan burger painted body color. Good luck.
