17x8 wheels too wide for max?

I just put new wheels on and they are 17x8 and I think look too wide, they stick out farther than the fender, what do you guys think. In the back its flush with the fender but in the front they are a little wider than the fender? But they dont scrub the wheel well?

Did they come off a car where the rims were staggered? I have 17x8's and they sit flush with the fender.

offset problem..... if the rears are flush with a 17x8 I would guess offset between 25 and 30mm .... I've run 17x9s with a +34 and they are flush in the rear and stick out a few mm in the front
