I have the same car as you with a slightly different color. I don't have 200K, only 59K, but I'm wondering why you want to replace the engine? What, if anything, is wrong with yours?

229k Because you're going to have numb nutted people posting "I have 179k and have repalced this this and that"

Water pump, ECTC, KS, Alt, Starter, CPS, MAF, Control arm bushings

Why a swap? Are you scared ? Don't be

and if you do swap, get a 3.5L ..

There are some over 300k. There's been numerous threads about mileage and the "How many miles do you have on your max!" and then the "Whats the lowest mileage 4th gen here!" etc. Since you're a donating member you can probably search for the threads.

im not scared by any means, but my car is still a daily driver and can not be out of comission for any length of time.. id like to do the 3.5l swap, but like i said above i need something that can be swapped fast. If u know anywhere that can explain the swap in detail or better yet can do the swap in the georgia area let me know, if i went that route id probably have to send my car to battlground for a few weeks.. and as far as minor replacements that was not the purpose of this thread. The purpose was to in fact see how many were driven without problems etc, and to get ideas for what to do to mine when i do begin the swap/transplant process.

That must have been a difficult job. I'm at 179,000, and with the way I drive, It'll be 200K before ya know it. How hard is it to swap with a 3.5? And ( dumb question i guess) is how expensive will it be?What parts other than the engine need to be replaced-removed?

I've seen three 4th Gens discussed in the last month - all in the 260s, I believe all with the original engine, and the highest mileage of the three stated was 265K.

264k, 265k by mid-week next week. Replaced starter, alternator, drive-axles, rebuilt tranny a few years ago, and am currently looking into a 3.5 swap.

How is the car running? How is fuel economy and oil consumption relative to when you got the car and what mileage was that?

Runs well, about to find about oil consumption tonight when i change the oil (I'm actually going to measure this time ) and i get about 25mpg city/highway mix. 450 miles per tank with A/C off more on roadtrips on the highway. The car was bought brand new by my father in 95 and i got it with about 105k on it in 00'.

208,000 miles here, on the original engine and automatic transmission, planning to take her to 300k! I have no fears about taking the car on long road trips and do so regularly. The car runs better than most cars with a third the mileage. It does not burn or leak anything.

used to have a 1992 limited edition max (power everything, all leather and options max) family sold the car back in 98..had 320,000 miles on it...it went from florida, to new york, to texas, to california, then back again...and after it got back..it went there again..that thing saw alot of traveling (had atleast 3 drivers...in my family) 6 years..and still ran like new...how crazy is that? EVERYTHING WAS ORIGINAL EXCEPT THE STARTER!

do you know of any places that would rebuild the engine around NY?

I was under the impression that the VQ was able to be rebuilt. It's built by robots within tolerances uncapable by humans. You've got to do an engine swap. Buy a used VQ with 50K miles from a junk yard for $1K or so.

Get used, cheaper. No sure, depends on the sources in your area, obviously. try www-car-part.com

used to have a 1992 limited edition max
This is in the 4th gen forum.

Read the title, 200K=, you're not there yet 182<200 ..simple math.

I actually measured the oil coming out of the pan and filter two oil changes ago. I found that the motor lost about two fluid ounces (about 1/16 quart) over 3,000 miles...and this is on a motor with more than 200k miles on it. Yet another reason why the VQ is the benchmark in motor engineering.

I added some oil recently for the first time, between changes, and I've owned the car since day 1. I replaced the oil pressure sender unit awhile back and lost a little oil in the process along with some seepage prior to changing it. Gotta love these engines!
